We’ve told you about all the interactive football content on FiOS, made possible by our all-fiber network. So it shouldn’t come as a complete surprise that we’re using some of the same technology to expand the game-day experience for fans actually at the stadium.
The New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., is a good case in point. Home of the Jets and Giants, the New Meadowlands is one of the most technologically advanced in the country. Screens and other devices in the stadium are connected by Verizon’s fiber and wireless networks and by Cisco technology, which means that fans will enjoy the added benefit of video, player statistics and other information as they watch the game.

As I've admitted before, I'm a shameless reality TV addict. Some of the best reality programs have nothing to do with voting someone off an Island. More often I'm now gravitating to the more "real" reality shows about food, cooking, decorating and house hunting. For example, I was excited to watch some of my favorite Food Network chefs take on the White House's executive chef, Cristeta Comerford, on Sunday Night's episode of "Iron Chef." Those commercials previewing the episode that said the secret ingredient was "of national importance" reeled me in.

If Sunday night's Giants-Eagles game is any indication of what this week will bring, the next two games should be very interesting. And with two undefeated teams playing this Thursday and Saturday, we have a lot to look forward to. This Thursday night, I'll be glued to my couch, watching Peyton Manning's undefeated Colts take on the Jaguars on FiOS TV. And I've already told my wife not to make any plans for Saturday, when I can watch Drew Brees and the undefeated Saints take on the Cowboys. Both games will be on the NFL Network, which I can watch in HD, with the picture and sound quality that only FiOS can offer.

In 1899, the head of the U.S. Patent Office was rumored to have suggested the office be closed because everything that could be invented already had been. He never said that, experts say, and tens of thousands of new patents in the past century have shown the notion to be totally misguided anyway. Back then, Jules Verne foresaw a future filled with exciting devices, although he didn’t predict the Verizon FiOS network or the impact it would have on consumers and cable TV competition. Nor did Verne see the confusion and frustration that can develop as customers try to hook together all their home entertainment gear.
