Can't navigate as suggested
Iconoclast2222

BeckyS_VZ addressed spam detector settings but I am unable to find anything that she suggested.

What is Webmail and is it different than the email function that I access through my browser? I find no reference to "Webmail" in any of the menus.

I have difficulty finding any settings options and certainly none for Spam Detector.

Can someone please tell me explicitly how to access my Spam Detector settings? I desperately want to try to limit the amount of spam that gets through to my Outlook account on my desktop computer.

Yes webmail is the verizon mail you access via your browser.  It  can alo be jumped directly to as

http://webmail.verizon.net

Click setttings/email settings/spam detector to get to page with spam detector settings.

I really dislike Verizon email access through the web therefore I rarely use it. I mainly use Outlook, iPhone and Mac email.

I use Chrome as my browser.

Under the silly Settings icon (Why don't they call it "Settings"?) I clicked to Mail Options , then Spam Protection .

Arriving there, there is nothing of apparent usefulness to adjust the specificity or sensitivity of the spam detector.

Am I missing something?

thanx for any help

Verizon's Spam Detector is an on/off function. There are no sensitivity settings.

I'm unable to determine if it is On or Off. Based upon its behavior, I suspect that Spam Protection is Off.

Regardless, there seems to be on switch for On or Off. If it is On, there seems to be no way of turning it Off, and vice versa.

Under the heading Spam Protection, there are displayed items for frequency to empty the spam folder and how to show images in emails. These items suggest that Spam Protection is On.

There are also two items under Advanced Settings.

I'm thinking that it might be useful to turn Off, then On the Spam Protection to see what happens but I don't see how to turn it Off. Am I on the right trac? Still missing something? Or is Spam Protection simply a farce?

Thanx for any help you can offer.

I am able to turn Spam filtering on/off from this screen:

Unfortunately, I am unable to find a screen that looks like the screenshot you sent. Also the resuloution of the .jpg image is such that I can't read the URL for the page and therefore can't type it in.

I use Chrome as my browser. Does that make a difference?

When I access email through Internet Explorer I find the same screen/options, but no On/Off switch.

Could you please send the text link to the page in your screenshot? Maybe I can get there if I type it in.

I appreciate your help!

Question for you: When you access your email, do you see Yahoo anywhere on the screen?

If you have a Yahoo partnered account, your set up will be completely different from a plain verizon.net account. That might explain the disconnect between what we see and what you see.

In the screenshot, the URL begins mail.verizon.com - Is that how the URL for your mail page begins?

Ahhhh! Beginning to make some progress now.

The URL on my mail main page (Inbox, etc) is http://us-mg5.mail.yahoo.com/neo/launch?.partner=  .

Several years ago i got an "update"message indicating that I needed to choose between the new and improved Yahoo or Google email experince. I chose Yahoo for no particular reason. I didn't realize at the time that I probably could have rejected the choice and just stayed with my same old boring Verizon experience.

Does anyone know if I can dump Yahoo and just get back with Verizon?

Thx!!!

Ok, for accessing SpamGuard settings with a Verizon/Yahoo account:

http://help.yahoo.com/verizon/tutorials/cg/cg_spamguard1.html

As for dumping Yahoo and going straight Verizon, yes it's possible. However, you will lose all mail/contacts currently in your mailbox, since that data is on Yahoo's servers. If you do some searches on the forum there are threads about how to initiate the change, but I would suggest backing up everything you want to keep, then calling tech support.
