E-mail signature character limit

When I tried to add a tagline at the end of my existing e-mail signature, I got the message that I had exceeded the e-mail character limit.  Fine, but I cannot find anywhere what that limit is (so that I can craft one that fits).  Anyone know what it is?

Through some testing, I have determined that the limit is 924 characters. I wasn't able to find this information readily online, but it's easy enough to test. 😉

According to "Word Count" in Word, I have 297 characters, 333 counting spaces -- and I still get the "You have reached the maximum limit" message when I try to save the signature.  There are 2 internet links as part of it (one to my LinkedIn profile; one to an upcoming event).  Could that be the problem?

How very interesting... Maybe introducing links forces it to add some html when it processes? (592 of them??)  I'm not sure. Line breaks and spaces do appear to both count.

Try removing the links to see if that helps. If it does, maybe you can work around that. Maybe a URL shortener like http://goo.gl/ or https://bitly.com/ ?

Also, make sure you do a select all (CTRL+A) when pasting your signature into the box, in case there are lines/spaces in there already that are invisibly eating up your character limit.

333 characters is still a heck of a signature. The rediculous pre-formatted one I have to use at work (Which I consider WAY too long already) is only 169.
