Email Setup in Outlook 2013

I just got the latest version of MS Office Professional 2013 and cannot get my email account set up in Outlook 2013. Has anyone else tried to set up a Verizon email in Outlook 2013?

March 28 - I've been trying all afternoon and evening (now 7:30PM) to get Outlook 2013 to work with Verizon's email.  I even called Verizon support and their rep took over my computer and couldn't get it to work!  After about a half hour session she said that it wasn't Verizon's problem because I can get my email through the Verizon residential web site.  So she's pointing their fingers at Microsoft to solve their email support problem.

Microsoft is good at releasing programs then fixing them later.  Windows8 and IE10 are their latest foulups. Since Outlook 2013 is designed to work with Windows 8, my guess is that your problem is the fault of Outlook rather Verizon.

Do an internet search for "outlook 2013 pop3 problems" and you will find out you aren't the only one having problems with it. There may even be a solution in some of the MS forums if you want to take the time to read through them.  Waiting for Microsoft to issue a fix will be less of a headache.

Most likely an issue with Verizon POP and SMTP settings in your email client.  Try using Windows live  and if that workss then it may be Outlook.  I thought MS was moving outlook users to Win Live anyway.

Cant say I am impressed w Verizon support.  I think this "blog space" is just to allow users to vent as I have yet to see any attempt by V support to respond to anything here.

Two comments:

1) I think maybe you are confusing Outlook with Outlook Express. Outlook is part of various MS Office packages and is still considered their strategic email platform. Outlook Express was the free email client on XP and does not work on Vista or Windows 7/8.

2) This "blog space" as you called it is really a place where Verizon customers can help other Verizon customers. It is not, and never was intended to be, a place where Verizon employees help customers, although there are a few Verizon reps here who do try to help with certain problem areas, primarily areas where other customers cannot help. And it certainly was not, and is not, intended to be a place for customers to "vent"; it was and is intended as a site where customers could ask questions and hopefully get answers (from other customers). Unfortunately IMO too many customers view the site as being just for the purpose you mentioned, to vent, instead of using it for something useful.

Outlook is a flagship MS program.  There is no indication that will change in the foreseeable future.

With respect to "blog spaces" [?], you only registered on the site two days ago (according to your visible details) so it's no surprise that's all you have seen.  Look around a bit because, like everything else, it takes time to get the lay of the land.

As Justin rightly indicated, there's much genuine "help" business taking place here.  Most users with more than a few days experience conclude that reading "vents" is not productive.  If instead one concentrates on the productive efforts of users who post here to assist other users, it's easy to get utility out of the exercise.

I too worked with Verizon Tech Support several weeks ago re. Outlook 2013 and Verizon e-mail, and eventually I was told it was a Verizon problem.  They had not been able to get their old POP e-mail working properly with Outlook 2013.  In my case, incoming worked, but outgoing did not.  Since I also had an e-mail acct with Microsoft, I told all my contacts to use that address instead and I am so glad I did.  All the e-mails and contacts automatically sync with each device.  If I am away and use a public computer to delete junk e-mails, they appear gone to me, but remain on the server if I ever want to get them back.  Likewise, with a new computer, I just allowed Outlook 2013 to sync with Outlook.com and all my contacts and prior e-mails appeared on my computer.  Why Verizon never updated their e-mail to something of at least 2005 technology is amazing to me.  So, just dump that Verizon e-mail address and get one like xxxxx@outlook.com.  It's great.

For some reason, Outlook 2013 works with incoming.yahoo.verizon.net and outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net, rather than the settings that verizon reccomends. everything else such as port numbers, follow verizon's reccomendations.

That is how I got my mom's email to work with Outlook 2013.

I tried the yahoo settings and no go for me, didn't work.  I take it your mother has a yahoo account or something like that.

Seems to me either Microsoft will come out with a fix for this and/or Verizon will.

I have 2 computers, one with Winodws 7, my other newer one with Windows 8.  My Windows 8 computer with Outlook 2013 only downloads a copy of my Verizon email to tghe hard drive, it doesn't permanently download/move my Verizon email off the server.  I get the same thing too with my gmail account that I set up in MS Outlook 2013.... it downloads a copy to Outlook 2013 and yet the original email stays on the server.

As others have stated, other versions of MS Outlook seem to work fine.  My main pc has MS Outlook 2007 and it works great with Verizon email.  It downloads it to the computer and removes it from the Verizon server.  My mother has Outlook 2010 on her laptop and that also seems to work well with Verizon email.

I know your post is a couple of months old, but I was able to use a work-around to allow my Verizon email into Outlook 2013. I really like the new Outlook.com, so I set my Verizon email up to work with that site. Their web-based product is a little easier to use than Verizon's, and you don't have to go through a bunch of steps to get there.

Once you set that up, it takes about 30 seconds to set up the outlook.com account with Outlook 2013.  Just create a new account - when you get to the screen with radio buttons asking if the account is Exchange, outlook.com, or pop, select outlook.com.  On the next screen, fill out the appropriate data, and use m.hotmail.com as the server.  It should work IMMEDIATELY.

Best of luck,

Kevin
