Internet Security Warning - The Server you are connected to is using security certificate that...

Mail Client on Laptop is Windows Live Mail.  Mail server outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net.  DSL Internet.  Long time Verizon customer.  Client configuration settings correct according to Verizon.  I now get an Interenet Security Warning message whenever I start up the Live Mail Client and send an e-mail.  Only happens on sending e-mails.  The warning message comes back looking for a YES or NO answer.  The message is

"The server you are connected to is using a security certificate that could not be verified."

"A certificate chain processed, but terminated in a root certificate which is not trused by the trust provider."

"Do you want to continue using the server?"      "YES    or   NO"

I click YES in order to successfully send e-mail messages which I do not like to do.  I only have to press YES on the first e-mail message that I send.  The rest outgoing e-mail work correctly after that first one.

What has Verizonn done to cause the problem on my client software?  I have done nothing to change configurations on my Windows 7 and Windos Live Mail laptop.  I have done some research, and verified that my computer time and time zone is correct.  I am looking for an explanation on why this is happening from Verizon.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If no one has a better idea you may want to unlink Yahoo from VZ. http://forums.verizon.com/t5/Verizon-net-Email/Unlinking-Verizon-email-from-Yahoo-portal/td-p/413475 It is possible to lose data as pointed out in the linked thread.

OR Did you get any indication that your mail server settings were going to change at the end of Sept 2013? A mass email went out for "standard" verizon users earlier this year.  I am not sure if this effects Yahoo/VZ settings.

Verify that you are using the following mail server settings:

  • Incoming mail server  (POP3): pop.verizon.net
  • Incoming Server Port Numbers: 995
  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.verizon.net
  • Outgoing Server Port Numbers: 465
  • Your Verizon Online user name
  • Your Verizon Online password
  • Make sure "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" is checked.
  • Make sure Password authentication is set to normal.

Since you are using Yahoo.Verizon for mail, you may need to use the following instead.

  • Incoming mail server  (POP3): pop.yahoo.verizon.net
  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.yahoo.verizon.net

With respect to the settings for the Verizon Yahoo mail portal.  I have already checked and verified that they are correct.  Also, with respect to the suggested setting of

                   smtp.yahoo.verizon.net

                   pop.yahoo.verizon.net

These server names are incorrect.  They do not resolve to any IP address when checking using NSLOOKUP and WHOIS for either of these servers.

Someone must know if this is a Verizon problem or a client problem?

Perhaps you misread my post.  I said "Did you try the settings walt178 listed?"   walt178 posted a reponse that has settings in it.  You should re-read it and try them is the point I'm trying to make.  I think it will help.

I tried all suggestions by wait178.  None of them worked.  They did not work and allow me to logon at all even to get incoming e-mail messages.  I am back to my original problem.  I still have not converted from the yahoo portal and do not understand how that would correct my problem.   Any other recommedations?   I even tried using IP addresses of incoming and outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net and that did not resolve the certificate problem.  Why does that continue to happen?

What have you tried?  Have you tried contacting Verizon for help?  What are you going to do in the future?  Accept this error or try to fix this problem?
