Mail server settings for e-mail on phone

Hi,

Can someone help me identify the correct settings for "incoming mail server" and "outgoing mail server" so that I can access my Verizon mail from my iPhone?

INCOMING MAIL SERVER

The iPhone settings ask for host name, user name and password

For host name I assume it is webmail.verizon.net

I assume that the user name and password are the same ones that I use when I access webmail on my browser on my PC

OUTGOING MAIL

It also wants host name, user name and password

For host name it suggests smtp.example.com.  So I put in smtp.verizon.net

Then the same username as password as I used above - which the ones that I use to log into webmail on my browser on my PC

Apparently I'm getting something wrong as it says it can't find.  Any suggestions / corrections gratefully received.

Cheers

Re: Mail server settings for e-mail on phone

For the sake of example, we are going to pretend that we are setting up fictional account "fakeacct@verizon.net" and the password for logging into that account in webmail is "fakepassword" - Again, this is a fictitious account for the sake of an example.

The settings for using Verizon's servers would be:
Incoming Server: incoming.verizon.net
Server Requires Authentication: Yes
Username: fakeacct
Password: fakepassword
Requires a Secure Connection (SSL): No
Port: 110

Outgoing Server: outgoing.verizon.net
Server Requires Authentication: Yes (You can set it to use the same settings as incoming, or manually enter the username and password.)
Requires a Secure Connection (SSL): No
Port: 25 (although 587 also works.)

These settings should work unless you have a Verizon/Yahoo account, in which case the server names are: incoming.yahoo.verizon.net -and- outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net

Re: Mail server settings for e-mail on phone

Thanks very much for the reply.

The error message I get when I follow these instructions is:

The IMAP server "incoming.verizon.net" is not responding.

It then suggests that I check the network connection [which is working fine] and that I check the information entered in the "incoming mail server" field [which is also correct]

Very frustrating.  I did not have this problem with my BlackBerry.

On the other hand I gather that right now I wouldn't get any e-mail on my BB right now (ha ha)

Verizon does not offer IMAP service. You have to set it up as a POP3 account.
