Outlook 2010 under Windows 7- 64 bit will not Connect to Verizon e-mail

Situation:

Downloaded Office 2010 from Microsoft today. Bought a new Dell 8300 Series THX Desktop with 64 bit Windows 7. Tried to install Outlook 2010 using the set up specs from Verizon.com.  In setting up the account, the Verizon incoming and outgoing mail servers refuse to honor my password. Contacted Verizon help twice but they were unable to help me. On said try Microsoft Outlook but I used Windows Live Mail. Same problem- password invalid. Downlaoded Thunderbird Version 12. Same problem with passwords. So I went to verizon.com, signed on successfullywith the same password that the mail servers indeicated was invalid. Changed the passwrod. I reset my Blackberry, IPAD Version 1, and Dell XP laptop (it uses Thudnderbird) with the new password and back in business with sending and receiving e-mails using my verizon.net e-mail.I can access my verizon e-mail come via Verizon's web e-mail too.

So, what should I do?

1. Work with Verizon some more.

2. Contact Microsoft.

3. Contact Dell.

Has anyone else encounterd this problem?

Thanks,

I experienced the opposite problem, my email password for Verizon worked just fine, but it kept telling me the password was invalid for verizon.com. I am quite certain the issue is related to Verizon's combining Verizon.net and Verizon.com into Verizon.com which occured quite recently.  I iultimately had to have the password reset, and pick a new password to 're-synchronize' the passwords, and that did indeed fix the problem.

I'd be willing to bet money that this really is an issue with Verizon, but they are never going to admit it. So my advice is just forget it. It clearly doesn't involve either Microsoft or Dell.

When you log into your webmail, does any part of the page say "Yahoo"? Server settings for Verizon/Yahoo accounts are different from regular Verizon accounts. It would be helpful to know what settings you are currently using (without your username and password, of course).
