outlook express email

In the last few days I have been able to receive emails but I cannot send emails. My outgoing port says 587 and the incoming port is 110. I have not made any changes. Not sure what the problem is. I know very little about computers so talk to me so I can understand....:)

Thank you

It worked, thank you very much. I think the problem was that I didn't have the SSL'S clicked on. Now I can enjoy the football game today.....Smiley Happy

You have been asked to change ports for several years and to change address for well over a year.

See http://www.verizon.com/emailsettings

  • Incoming mail server (POP3): pop.verizon.net
  • Incoming Server Port Numbers: 995
  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.verizon.net
  • Outgoing Server Port Numbers: 465
  • Make sure SSL encryption is enabled for the incoming and outgoing mail server.

Also password must be in plain text.  No apop (authenticated pop) or other encyption.

When I changed the 110 to 995 it went back to 25

Make sure to click SSL first.  995 should then show up as default.

Are you perhaps a Yahoo email user?  The yahoo/verizon use different servers.  They support these ports or some others for debuging

For Yahoo see

I now have another problem. when I receive mail it doesn't show up in my inbox. I have to click on send/receive to see if I have any mail. Hopefully this is just a minor problem.
