Re: yahoo.verizon sent e-mail delayed for hours before being delivered. HELP!

I did "chat" with customer service earlier and they said that it is an "SMTP Outage" and they do not know when it will be "resolved".  If you contact them, ask about the "SMTP Outage", when it will be resolved, and how they will let us know.  I checked their "announcments" page - no mention.  It's at:

Re: yahoo.verizon sent e-mail delayed for hours before being delivered. HELP!

Posted last on 8/30/10.  Last couple of days have been better, but inconsistent or even selective.  No pattern.  Some email, whether it contains attachments or not, is still taking hours to get through to customers including my CC: copy.  Other email is received in less than 10 sec.  Very frustrating.  Will try escalating this again, but fear that Verizon's hands are tied praying that Yahoo fixes this in timely manner.  Very unfortunate, as I have had excellent success since late 2007 with Yahoo servers.  Was told on 8/30 that Yahoo was working on release of new Webmail format and that they (Yahoo) did not expect this to impact customers. So much for contingency planning.

Anyone recently decide to have Verizon switch you to their own servers?  If so, did issue go away?

Re: yahoo.verizon sent e-mail delayed for hours before being delivered. HELP!

I have spent about 5 hours on the phone with support this weekend for this problem. I have partial success. I am going to give some information that was given to me. This is probably not a good fix, and someday when they do fix this on the Verizon servers, I will probably have trouble with these non-standard settings... but here it goes.

I was told to use pop.mail.yahoo.com instead of outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net and smtp.mail.yahoo.com instead of outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net. This fixed my primary account but doesn't recognize email from my subaccount (won't even recognize the password).

Re: yahoo.verizon sent e-mail delayed for hours before being delivered. HELP!

Same problem as everyone else. This has been going on for a week. Here are a few observations:

1. Email can take minutes or days to get through. At 3am this morning, several email went out from 3 days ago.

2. It does not matter if I send from home or work. The same problem occurs.

3. It does not matter if I use mac mail or outlook.

4. My blackberry does NOT have the problem sending with the same email account.

5. Support from verison is USELESS.

Re: yahoo.verizon sent e-mail delayed for hours before being delivered. HELP!

Same here, in terms of delays, which have been going on for about a week.  This morning, I could no longer use my mac mail program to retrieve mail from my main account at verizon, although I was able to retrieve it from other accounts.  i did talk to an agent, who was able to verify that there is a problem with the e-mail.  When I asked why it hadn't been posted, he said that they had just found out "a couple days ago".  Humph.  Why lie?  Why not just post the info so that we know what is going on?

Also, I mentioned that  I am frustrated that Verizon's downloadable software does not work with Macs.  No reply to that one, but the standard follow-up e-mail urges me to download their PC-compatible program!  Sheesh.....

Re: yahoo.verizon sent e-mail delayed for hours before being delivered. HELP!

Still hit and miss.  Emails sent yesterday at around 6pm still have not arrived (I CC: or BCC: myself on all).  Exact same email resent just now came through within seconds after sending it.  This is a NASTY issue on Yahoo's side and some powerful management folks from Verzion need to know what's going on, get on the phone with Yahoo, and get this crap taken care of NOW!

It is 1 p.m. on Saturday November 6th  here south of Boston and the problem still exists.  I have FIOS 20/20 internet service so I don't think it's an attempt to get us to upgrade--we're all being inconvienced by Verizon's inability or apathy to our problem.   Windows Mail is delayed for hours, but webmail goes right through.

I'd be very curious to know how to complain to the FCC if there are not yet enough to motivate a response.

I have sent you 2 messages to try to answer your request.  The first was URLs and phone number at the FCC.  This was 'moderated' out of this forum.

When the first one was removed I sent you a second one that said just to look on the FCC web site to get that contact information.  That one was also removed.

I presume this one will also be deleted but perhaps some will read it first.

I guess they don't want complaints made, and do not choose to fix this in a timely manner.

Re: yahoo.verizon sent e-mail delayed for hours before being delivered. HELP!

Just got off the phone with 1st line support.  A very helpful person based here in the States.  However, typical situation where he was not aware of these ongoing Yahoo server issues that have been occurring for over a week now and was thankful for my explanation of the issue and pointing him to this forum.  He committed to forwarding all this on to his QT dept. (Quality) for assitance.  He had just gotten off the phone with another person experiencing same issues and was able to demonstrate to himself that, whether using an email client or webmail, issue was present for both, all pointing to Yahoo as culprit.

I dad enough and took option of converting my email servers (incoming and outgoing) from Yahoo to Verizon.  Very simple process where 1st line support person contacts Verizon OSC (Operation Support Center) via Chat and requests this change.  Took 1-2 min. and it was done for Primary (mine) and all sub accounts (family members).

Required change on my part was to go to all computers and change my Outlook incoming and outgoing servers from:

incoming.yahoo.verizon.net

outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net

to:

incoming.verizon.net (removed yahoo)

outgoing.verizon.net (removed yahoo)

No other changes.  Tested email while on phone with support person by simply sending email to myself (Verizon account).  Received it instantly.

Only issue with this change is that my free Yahoo email accounts will no longer be considered Premium or Yahoo Mail Plus! accounts so POP3 may longer be available unless going with 3rd party software such as:

YPops

I used to have this program installed before moving to FIOS.  It worked fine.  Once I integrated with Yahoo servers in late 2007, did not need this anymore.  Will try this program first unless Yahoo is now allowing POP3 of their free accounts, but my review on the web shows that Yahoo Mail Plus! is required (paid service).

In addition, should Yahoo finally resolve the issue, you can always move back to the their server by:

  1. Going to verizon.net/getyahoo
  2. Or just call 1st line support and request the change

Will report back in a few days with feedback on my experience moving to Verizon servers.  This should repair the latency issues.  The support person who has been with Verizon for 4 years stated that he has not experienced a Verizon server issue that was not repaired no more that  1 hour timeframe - certainly nothing to the extent of this Yahoo issue.  Will probably stay with Verizon servers moving forward.

Good luck to all and consider the move to the Verizon server to address your latency issue, at least short term.

Re: yahoo.verizon sent e-mail delayed for hours before being delivered. HELP!

A Verizon agent told me yesterday (Saturday) that the slow emails were due to a latency problem which had been fixed the evening before. However, this morning, I received my copy of a message that I had posted to a forum on Friday evening. I have successfully exchanged a couple messages today but others seem to be held up so the problem does not appear to have been fixed.
