New Contract phone and family plan questions

Hey everyone,

A few questions I'd really appreciate some help with:

-- My parents currently have a Verizon family plan.

-- I am NOT currently a Verizon wireless customer.

Question 1: If I add myself to their family plan, am I able to get the new customer discount (I want to get the $199 DROID deal)?

I'm happy to sign a contract. I just want to know if there's any way to get a discounted phone while taking advantage of the savings I would get from joining their family plan, rather than getting my own individual plan.

Question 2: If I add myself to their family plan, can I get a phone number in a different area code than theirs?

Thanks! Any and all help is appreciated.

Re: New Contract phone and family plan questions

1) Yes, since it's a new line, you get the 2 year pricing

2) Yes, you can choose from a variety of area codes within your area that doesn't have to be the same as your parents

Thanks for the response. Am I able to get an area code that's in an entirely different state? Specifically, my parents live in Minnesota and I want to get a Los Angeles area code...

Re: New Contract phone and family plan questions

I'm actually not sure about that, if you lived in LA - though if you lived in Minn., you wouldn't be able to

Re: New Contract phone and family plan questions

The account owner, primary number, on the family plan would add the line - you can't "add yourself" to the plan.  So this would all be coordinated through customer service or in a store.  Are you physically located in LA and your family is in Minnesota?  It should all be doable, provided the primary account holder is willing to add your line.

Yup I live in LA. I'll be in Minnesota later this month though. Sounds like I should just go to a store and have them set things up there. Thanks for the help everyone!
