Weekly Feature: 12 Top Picks for Video Games

[ Edited ]

Looking for a last-minute gift for a video game fan? Whether they have an XBox 360, a Wii, or a Playstation 3, we’ve got some great suggestions for a great stocking stuffer. From sports fans to dancers, or people who just like to blow things up, we’ve got you covered in this week's Weekly Feature. And we include the Entertainment Software Rating Board’s rating for each one, so you’ll know which are appropriate for gamers of different ages.

If you have already bought video games for friends or family, do you pay any attention to the ratings? I’d love to hear about your views on how useful the ratings are, so please post a reply.

Can't say I know much about the rating system....I absolutely can't wait to get a Wii in our house.  We borrowed one from a friend and I decided that I couldn't be trusted yet:smileyvery-happy:  My children were on it for hours with the bowling game and I got TONS of stuff done...(usually we would have done atleast 1 craft or coloring project together, barbie make-overs, and matchbox car rallies).  They just love it when she brings it over.  Going to have to break down and get one =)

Wii, Wii, Wii, all the way home...

Yes, the Wii definitely seems to win the "family-friendly" award, but what else would you expect from a console descended from the original Mario Brothers? It seems to be a big hit with the young and old; elderly care facilities find it's effective at getting residents to move about some. I guess it's mostly the teens-to-thirtysomethings who prefer to blow things up with as much realism as they can stand.

Does anyone play N64 any more or the classic super nintendo? Or am i the only one?  :smileyindifferent:

I have a wii that I play sometimes. I don't have too many games though. When I do want to buy a game I don't really look at the ratings. Although maybe I should start considering a game could be really bad when I get it then I'd loose out on my money.

Well, I was shocked on Christmas Eve when my 70 something year old Father In Law said he wanted to try playing Black Ops on the Wii!

I hear ya TheGreatOne ... however no longer have those old consoles, but loved the games.   So, I got my wife a Wii for Christmas since she was interested in the WiiFit board.   Most popular game to date?   Well ... I downloaded from the WiiStore the old Legend of Zelda 1980's classic and it's been the most popular game!  Go figure.

I got another wii game for xmas. It was an exercise fit game. Landed up giving it away though. Wasn't too impressed with it at the time, but now I kinda regret giving it away. :smileysad:

Aw. remeber the duck hunt game where you'd shoot ducks with that orange gun?  :smileyvery-happy:Classic!
