Data Plan, Advanced Device question.

I was recently looking into a data plan for my son's phone and came across a chart that had the $9.99 plan and the $19.99 plan compared as well as the premium and connect plans. Below the chart was an asterisk that said somethin to the effect of "Advanced (orr 'enhanced', I don't remeber) Multimedia Phones that are not on a premium or connect plan must have at least $9.99 data plan." What does this mean? As far as I know, the enV Touch is an Enhanced/Advanced Multimedia phone, yes? Does this mean my son needs a data plan?

yes as of nov 15th  any  entouch purchased must have the data features 9.99 for 25mb or 19.99 for 75 mb of usages. or c an be used with a connect or premium package

As of Nov. 8, the EnVTouch is required to have a data plan, UNLESS you owned it without a data plan prior to Nov. 8.  You can continue to use it on a Pay As You Go Basis.  Once you add a data plan to the Touch, or if you purchase the Touch NOW, it will be required.  You can add the $9.99 (up to 25 MB) , $19.99 (25-75 MB) data package, or upgrade to Connect or Premium plans.
