DROID by Motorola arrives on Nov. 6.

DROID by Motorola, the first smartphone powered by Android™ 2.0. DROID by Motorola features the brainpower and breakneck speed of a modern smartphone, designed to outperform where other smartphones fall short. DROID by Motorola has a solid exterior, intelligent interior and is one of the thinnest full-QWERTY slider phones available. It is a no-fuss, high-tech, location-aware, voice-recognizing, over-the-air updating, multi-tasking machine – and it is available just in time for holiday wish lists.

With DROID by Motorola, you can:

  • Zip through the Web: Access the Internet at 3G speeds via the nation’s largest and most reliable 3G network or from any Wi-Fi hotspot. The multi-window HTML browser with a massive processor delivers the Web the way you expect.

  • See it all in cinema-style: View the Web, e-mail, Google Maps™, videos and more in widescreen on a brilliant 3.7” high-resolution screen. Boasting a width of 854 pixels to reduce the need for side-to-side panning and more than 400,000 pixels total, DROID has more than twice that of the leading competitor.

  • Run multiple applications at once: Customize your DROID with thousands of applications and hundreds of widgets available on Android Market™. Toggle back and forth between up to six applications at a time to juggle the universe and your apps.

  • Perform Google Search™ at the speed of sound: Simply tell DROID what you’re looking for using voice-activated search, and it will serve up Google search results based on your location. If you want more, simply type what you’re looking for into the search bar on the home screen and DROID will also search content on your phone, such as apps and contacts, and the Web.

  • Capture moments: Snap digital camera-quality photos with a 5 megapixel camera loaded with the works, such as a dual-LED flash, AutoFocus and image stabilization, or capture your friend’s antics in 16 million colors with DVD-quality video capture and playback. Store it all on the included 16 GB memory card, so you always have it on hand.

  • Multi-task like a master: Keep tabs on all your messages with integrated Gmail™ and Exchange e-mail pushed directly to you, but don’t let them get in your way. With the handy Android notification panel, go straight to the message or simply ignore it, and get back to the task at hand. And, a smart dictionary learns as you type and automatically includes your contacts.

  • Get where you need to go with Google Maps Navigation (Beta): DROID is the first device with Google Maps Navigation, providing turn-by-turn voice guidance as a free feature of Google Maps. It’s powered by Google and connected to the Internet. Use voice shortcuts and simply say “Navigate to [your destination],” and you’ll be on your way. See live traffic, use Street View or satellite imagery to view your route, and get access to the most recent maps and business information from Google Maps without ever needing to update your device.

The droid is sooo tempting but what is this passion coming out and when it does come out is it going to be yet another slide phone?   blah I hope not.

Verizon make my phone dreams come true and make me a global Droid with a full flip qwerty keyboard with the option of a touch screen one as well; that keeps its sleek slender shape.  I want it to be able to send video five minutes long, take video as long as I want and edit them,  tell me all the holidays on the calendar, a 5.0 mega pixel camera that also has a lens on the outside of the flip as well as the inside so I can really video message,  Real TV would be ideal not the mobile version of it, and I want to beable to personalize it with any font I want and any shell like gold, hematite, chrome, and my personal favorite faux knotted wood with hematite accents.  Oh and I love the whole antenna you have on some of your phones.  With all the bells and whistles that already comes with the droid. (I'm assuming Vz nav, Vcast vid, Vcast tv and unlimited everything)

Verizon if anyone can do it you can.  Stop wasting my time with junk I'm gonna have to upgrade in couple of weeks and get me the full package.  I'd pay 450.00 before rebate even if it didn't have a rebate for a phone like that.

I think the product was pushed into the stores too soon.  Employees have little understanding of it and have difficulty getting support help.  One week after the Droid arrived in our local store, they still have no accessories (screen protectors, holsters, car chargers, etc.)  One would think accessories would be an easy thing to do beforehand.  Very disappointing.

I am returning my Droid on Monday and going back to BlackBerry.  Too bad.  I liked the phone .... it just doesn't come with enough basic functionality for me.  I don't want to have to download apps from a bunch of different sites just so I can have the functionality I had with BlackBerry.  Too much hassle.

INTERNET TETHERING IS NOT AVAILABLE WITH THE DROID!!  This is the feature that allows you to use your phone to connect to the internet.  If you need tethering, then this is NOT the phone for you.  I  received my DROID today (12/7) and will be returning it because it does not have this feature.  Customer Serviced told me tethering was available when I ordered the phone but it is .  If I had known tethering was not available, i would have ordered another phone that does offer this feature like the BlackBerry Storm2.

PLEASE ADD INTERNET TETHERING TO THE LONG LIST OF DROIDS FUNCTIONS.  THIS IS THE ONLY REASON I RETURNED THE PHONE.

Is there anyone out there that can lead to the forum on droid app security? I don't see many discussions on the loss of privacy using the phone's google and other apps.

Have a Droid and it has locked up 10 times in a 2 weeks, Verizon is not sure why because they can't trouble shoot  the problem. The problems is with the apps beware,we found this out maybe Verizon will look into the issue,  And I do not even work for the company nor do I work on electronics

I got my Droid shortly after it came out and I love it! I've been so happy with this phone. I loved my BlackBerry too, but this was a great upgrade and well worth it!

Does anyone know what application allows you to change the different notification sounds for different contacts? Verizon told me they knew but wouldn't give me that information cause it was a third party application.

I got a Devour 2 days ago.  It works on the android OS.  The thing sucks **bleep**.  First of all, if your slogan is going to be "in a world that doesn't, droid does," it better do EVERYTHING.  It won't even let me on Verizon web over Wi-Fi; so if you ever want to use wi-fi half the phone doesn't work already.  in the apps "market" they really only have 10 real apps, the other 10,000 just do the same thing that the first 10 already do.  and out of those 10,000 apps, the only thing 90% of them do is crash your phone.  I'm planing on returning this thing tomorrow and getting an iPhone.  Maybe AT&T's network sucks, but it doesn't do me any good to have a great network with a phone that never works.
