When working with text entry fields on most FiOS TV widgets, there is a button to change from letters to symbols - however on the text entry screen for logging into the Pandora wudget, this button is strangely absent. Shucks... my e-mail address has a minus ( - ), and thus I have no way to access tthe Pandora account I already pay for on my TV and Hi-Fi system.
Please consider adding a symbols button, or at least the most rudimentary symbols to the log-in screen of Pandora and any other widgets which might not have it. Thanks!
The FIOS TV menu, under "Customer Service", "My Wireless Network", displays your SSID (Network Name) and network encryption key WITHOUT asking for any sort of password. The information is freely displayed to anyone with access to your remote.
This completely defeats the purpose of having an encryption key on the wireless network if anyone with access to the remote can pull up your SSID and WEP/WPA key.
In my case, I run a proxy server with another wireless router behind the proxy. Everyone connects to the wireless network behind the proxy server so that web filtering can occur as their are kids in the house. The Verizon ActionTec router sits in front of the proxy with wireless enabled but the SSID hidden. Some may say to turn off the wireless feature in front of the proxy and problem solved, but that's not the point.
The point is Verizon should not be freely advertising your network security details via a widget on the FIOS TV service. I have to supply a password to my FIOS router to have access to this information, why is this not the same on the TV?
Verizon obviously did not think this through. I contacted Verizon via phone and was told there is no way to disable this. Verizon says "your privacy is your right and our duty" so I would like to see Verizon address this immediately. Seeking other ways to notify Verizon of this egregious gaffe in security, but for now this post is the first vehicle.
Email and Web at your TV? I believe someone tried Web TV and it did not go well. But this could be different.
Now if Verizon were to have a browser in the STB which is possible since it is Linux based. I would go for that, and a slide out keyboard on the remote, with a mouse that would move based on positioning of the remote. Not like the TiVO remote but different. Don't want anymore time in court. There are many open source browsers that could be used. Sell the remote as an option, but don't charge for the browser use. Verizon would have a feature that other providers don't. Now let's see if Verizon can do it before Tivo or someone else. I don't think anyone has it in a STB or DVR.
Perhaps this could be a Widget Plug in, so a new img would not be required?
Up until near the end of April, the scoreboard on the baseball widget listed the days in reverse order. If you wanted to see the score from two days prior, you only needed to scroll through two days worth of scores. Somewhere around April 24, the scores began to be listed in calendar order. If, on May 1, you want to check a score from April 30, you will have to scroll through every day since the beginning of the season. Why can't the scores be kept in reverse order throughout the season? Most people will be looking for a fairly recent game, not the first few games of the season. I hope the reverse-order scoreboard can be reinstated even for the remainder of this year. Thanks.
IT WOULD BE GREAT IF FIOS OFFERED A WAY TO ACCESS INTERNET SITES. I WOLD LOVE TO GET TO MY SHUTTERFLY, AOL, ITUNES, WORK EMAIL AND OTHER THINGS WHILE I AM WATCHING A PROGRAM OR IN BETWEEN SHOWS..............MAYBE EVEN AN OPTIONAL WIRELESS KEYBOARD
So I have tried to use the FIOS Olympics widget. Might be ok, if it worked consistently.
Here's my comments:
1) Widget keeps timing out. Either when I just try and launch it or when I try and change from news to schedule. All other widgets work fine and so does VOD. Just to double check, ran In Home agent and it said network is fine.
2) Would be nice if it remembered last thing you looked at on the widget. Meaning why always default to news. I am usually looking for schedule.
3) Why does it only show NBCSN channel in widget? I could understand if they didn't want to show non-Olympics channels.
But tonight I had the TV on local NBC channel (the only channel showing Olympics). When I started up the widget, it would only show NBCSN channel in the window. Which is currently showing a MLS game. Should be able to read guide and see if selected channel is showing Olympics.
Can't imagine these issues can be corrected before Olympics end (except for maybe #1 as it could be a server issue).
So they have 2 years until Winter Olympics to get it right.
What People are Watching widget helped me never miss what was on. My whole family loved it and had fun to see if what we were watching matched what everyone else in our area was watching! Also a great marketing tool for you when you see everyone is watching say Game of Thrones on HBO, people might request getting Premium channels more.Thanks.
1. Back at the end of February our AP Widget was removed for updating. It is now the end of May when will the AP Associated Press widget be back up on the Fios Widgets? I still have not received a definitive answer. It's been almost 3 months. It was one of the most valued widget services that Verizon Fios offered besides the Traffic and Weather widgets.
2. On the Fios Traffic Widget it would be very helpful if the town was noted in the traffic updates; they just state street or highways not the towns where the traffic problems are.
Please inform the Management Team or Department who runs these particular services.
I would be most grateful as the many other Fios Customers if these issues were Addressed especially the AP (Associated Press Widget and get it back up on the Fios widget menu again.
I live in the 08879 area of New Jersey.
Thank you for your anticipated assistance.

Having to install MediaMgr on the PC just to use these features is a burden. Don't the cableboxes have built-in modems? It would be much more convinient if you could use these features without running your PC all the time.
