Home Monitoring needs more support

Status: Acknowledged
by SuzieQueue on ‎04-15-2012 11:42 AM

I realize that Home Monitoring and Control is a relatively new offering from Verizon. In fact, when you call Verizon, it's not even on the list of voice prompts for why you might be calling. Right now, it is clearly a "do it yourself" product, but with its mass appeal, I think it really needs to come with more support from Verizon. When you open a new telephone, TV or internet account with Verizon, they send a technician out to your house, and often, it's for little more than just "turning on" the services for which the residence is already wired and equipped. But for this new, fairly complicated, multi-faceted product, which might soon be all the rage since surveillance cameras are now actively located practically anywhere human beings walk, how can you not have the option of having a sales and/or technical installation expert go to customers' homes to help them determine which devices are right for them and get them installed correctly? A lot of people who could benefit from this product simply wouldn't know where to begin when it comes to purchasing and installing it. You really should consider putting more manpower/sales & installation force behind it. (PS - sprinkler system manufacturers are now getting into the "remote control via mobile app" game. You might want to consider adding a sprinkler system control panel to the home monitoring package, too. That would be awesome.)

Weird'o @ the front door!

Status: Acknowledged
by 1133club on ‎03-19-2012 07:06 AM

All kinds of weirdo's are knocking on our door these days, some legitimate, many others just checking to see if anyone is home. If no answer they may find it easy to enter and burglarize. If you answer they use various identities like from the water company, the fire department there to inspect some fictitious non-existent problem. They use various reasons to distract you, or to convince you to go into another room to test a water faucet, light fixture, smoke alarm, or in our case to lure us outside and around back with some sort of property line clarification for a fence a neighbor was supposed to be installing. We unknowingly went out back but quickly got wise that the lure was to get us away from the front door so his accomplice could could enter our house while we were distracted. It didn't work this time, thankfully.

I would like a FIOS channel with big loud barking dogs where I, and others alone, seniors, etc. could switch to when anyone knocks on our front door. We could leave the channel on until we crack the door open a bit to identify who the person is. This idea would certainly scare the hell out of anyone knocking and provide a good sense of security for the home owner. I would put an extra speaker close to the door just to amplify the effect.

Let's do it Verizon!

Home Monitoring Energy Reader

The energy reader should have more functionality. You should be able to enter the rates of your electric provider and be able to see

usage in dollars and cents. Like other energy readers on the market which provide this application. This allows you to estimate monthly billing.

Thank you for your suggestion. I'll make sure it gets shown to the proper team within Verizon.

Home Control Digital Modules

Status: New Idea
by on ‎11-12-2011 07:22 AM

It would be nice if we could get Home Control Digital Modules, with say 4or8 binary inputs and outputs. Allow the user to program their function. Say status on the inputs and outputs, and notification on the inputs etc. I would like to control and monitor hard wired devices also.

Allow an interface for monitoring analog cameras already installed in the home.

Perhaps analog temperature sensors that can be places inside or outside.

With 15 year in the Commercial DDC Automation and Energy Management field, I see much potential here, but also see limits.

Reporting Violators of Florida's No Call List

Status: New Idea
by scots on ‎11-05-2011 01:20 PM

I just went online to get the number of a company that called so that I can report the violation to the State of Florida.  It occurred to me that it would be great if we could send the number and call information directly to the Division of Consumer Services from this website by putting a check by the number of the caller and having it automatically sent. to the Department.  The violations are getting more and more numerous.  This would make it easier to report a vioation.  Maybe it would also encourage customers to keep their landline since it is harder to solicit a cell phone which makes a cell phone for home service more desirable.

Home Control Modes

Can you add a time to and from field, and or a duck to dawn field on the when triggered mode?  If I set my mode to turn on a light when I access my pin on my door lock, I don't need the light to come on at 330 in the afternoon when I get home from work in the summer.  Now in the winter, when I get home from work at 730 and it's dark out, then I would want the light to come on.  As it stands now, you can only have it come on every time you access your pin.

Home Monitoring Door Lock

It would be nice to see the door lock actually lock the door if you forget to. Having a feature to just let someone enter your house seems like a useless feature. How many times are you really going to need this. Knowing if the door is locked or unlocked is nice but doing something about it without having to drive back home would be a major improvement.

Verizon listened, but only followed through half way. You can now name codes (pins), but when the email notification comes in, it is stilled labeled Pin 1, Pin 2, Pin 3 was accessed. Unless you can remember who you assigned the poins to makes it half done. Thanks for listening. - DB

True Home Monitoring and Control with Security and Central station Monitoring

I think Verizon could take some lessons if they want to sell their home monitoring and control. Verizon's system could be awesome. They have Cellular and FiOS. Just throw in a paired security system with it, and add the cost of third party monitoring at about $10 and they would have something.

If you had this to offer, it would have been a no brainier, and another chunk of money from me. But you would need a dedicated support staff to respond quickly to calls.

FrontPoint GE Simon XT V2 Security System Installed. It only took me about 30 min to set it up and I took my time. 100% Cellular. Wireless sensors. Zwave. I installed Lowes Iris Zwave system wall switches and dimmers(GE), because who wants a lamp that someone could leave off. Yes Even Lowes Home Improvement is pushing home automation. http://www.lowes.com/cd_Iris_239939199_

FrontPoint said they could not support the other vendors devices, but had no issues with spending time with me to set them up. It was a breeze considering they were also GE. Entry light comes on in foyer when I open my door. All lights on with an alarm activation. Interactive system with central monitoring.

https://www.myfrontpoint.com/

Frontpoint Uses Alarm.com for remote access. Verizon has that built already. All you need is the interactive interface with a security panel, such as the Simon XT. Some vendors are doing just that, with a connection through broadband and or cellular. Depending on what the customer wants, and the level of security.

New Products for Home Control

by rspen4 on ‎06-14-2012 05:18 PM

Some new Z Wave products I would like to see available would be a z wave fire alarm and carbon monoxide alarm.  If either activated or went off line, you would get a SMS message.  It should also monitor the battery life like the door lock does.

A z wave door bell.  When someone rings the door bell, the outside camera would activate and you could see who is there.  You could also set times for the doorbell to ring, if you don't want to be bothered early in the morning for us people who work the graveyard shift.  This too could monitor the battery life as the door bell I have now dies without any knowledge.

I have seen on other websites an outdoor module.  This way I could plug my holiday lights in to it and use the timer mode.

I would like to purchase either a wall switch or an outlet socket for my porch light.  This way I can control through z wave when my porch light comes on and goes off.

Block Mode Re-Trigger when Lights go out

Status: Maybe Later
by denawilliams72 ‎07-07-2013 07:17 PM - edited ‎07-07-2013 07:30 PM

My outdoor camera activates a light when motion is detected.  When the mode times out and the light goes off, it re-triggers the motion sensor and turns the light back on.  You should add an option to "Enable Mode Timeout Filter" that when enabled, blocks the re-trigger of a mode for about 10 seconds at the end of the mode time.  The best thing about cameras and lights is the ability to let "visitors" know someone is home/watching.  Currently this function is not possible.

Status: Maybe Later
The ability to delay a mode and ensure it is not triggered by activity other than true motion is an excellent suggestion. We will add this suggestion to our list of future enhancements to be considered for Home Monitoring and Control. The HMC Product Management Team thanks you for taking the time to suggest a beneficial enhancement.

Verizon Cable Remote Panoramic Video Camera

Verizon,

I have been a long time customer and openly expressive about how impressed I am with your services. This being said, there are not many times when I will vocalize a concept or idea that I have to your marketing staff, but today, I was lucky enough to have our heavenly father, Jesus Christ, give me the most impressive idea I think you will ever hear. A Verizon Cable remote with an HD Optimized Laser Accurate Panoramic Thermal Video Camera TM. Yes, you read that correctly.

Picture this:

It's late one night, you've been watching a marathon of your favorite television show, Finding Bigfoot, on Animal Planet and you start to doze off. The trouble is, you live in the middle of the city and the living room, where your 21" Flat-Screen Samsung sits, is mere feet from the road and easily visible in the dark of night. "But it's been in this room for years", you whisper to yourself, "Why would someone take it tonight?", you ask. Ofcourse, you give it no more thought and being tired you and decide it's time for bed.

Cut to:

You've gone to bed, but John Doe, from next door has just started his night. You hear some noises coming from downstairs (you live in a two story house) but you blow it off as natural house noises; creaks and thumps are something you're used to having lived in this 70 year old house for over half a decade. An hour passes, you're still sleeping. Good for you. John Doe is in the process of stealing your 21". What now? Oh wait, you have left your cable remote sitting on the column shaped pedestal strategically placed in the middle of the room. Did you do that on purpose? Of course you DID! You're cable remote is a custom built Verzion HD Optimized Laser Accurate Panoramic Thermal Video Camera TM., that lasts 8 months on two double "AA" batteries. You have nothing to worry about. You'll tell the Police that you have video footage of a thief breaking into your house and stealing your 21", and remind them, as you do ever week, that you'll need it back before 7:30PM EST when the new episode of Finding Bigfoot airs.

You've done it again, Verizon. Not only have you provided superior lightning speed internet and first-class cable services, you've saved a man, who has continually neglected his home security system, from losing the only thing that matters in his life. The trust he places in your Verzion HD Optimized Laser Accurate Panoramic Thermal Video Camera TM. has far surpasses any trust he could ever place in another company.

You've outdone yourself Verizon. I think I speak for everyone that uses your services; You're that best in the business and we thank you.

It would have been nice if Verizon would let customers that are subcribing to the HMC service,  if they choose to upgrade to Quantum TV the ablity to monitor your HMC services through the TV via a widget is now longer available.  It was a disappointing shock after upgrading to Fios Quantum TV that we no longer have that widget.  Most of us who have HMC has spent hundreds on the Zwave devices for this service and now I see the start of the pull back on Verizon part.   Please do not stop supporting this service for us customers who have come to enjoy it not to mention the hundreds it cost us on equipment.

First Alert Smoke and CO Detector

Status: Acknowledged
by rspen4 on ‎12-24-2013 01:03 PM

First Alert model ZCOMBO and ZSMOKE have recently come out with a Smoke/Co Det and a smoke det for the IRIS system sold by Lowes.  You are able to pair it with the Verizon system but it says it is not compatible with Verizon and can not be controlled.  Can Verizon please add this so we can control it?  I would like to see the following controls with the device, if I am not home and my smoke det activates I would receive a notification, text message, email etc.  I would also like the following it activates, to control all my lights to come on and unlock my front door to unlock in case I pass out the FD and police can get in easily.  I would think this is a no brainer and money maker for Verizon.
