I find it dumb that you have a great app for phones to schedule recordings and same with online. But why can't you manage the series from there as-well? Optimum gives the option to record first run, anytime in this time slot, anytime on this channel and one time. You should be able to do the same from anywhere not just your set-top box. DUMB!
I wish there were a way to set a global filter so that ONLY HD channels/shows would show up. That means, search, guide, everything on the box would show only those shows that are HD AND that I'm subscribed to. The current HD filter is temporary and it shows all the pay channels that I don't have. Real pain.
PLEASE VOTE FOR THIS IDEA!
3D is a fad that people will soon become sick of, however HD is here to stay. Much more people have HD tv's than 3D, so I think it would be wise to add more HD channels than to add 3D channels.
Instead of having us download and install yet another media management application (VZ Media Manager), how about just supporting DLNA, so that existing DLNA servers can work with the FiOS TV box?
Windows Media Player on Windows Vista/7 already provides a DLNA server. I see no real reason why VZ Media Manager is necessary.
I understand Media Manager is required for us to be able to access YouTube on our boxes, but surely that functionality can be broken out into a smaller application that can run as a service on Windows, instead of this giant, memory-hogging thing that must run in the foreground all the time...
I like to watch full movies with "On Demand", after work late at night, sometimes I'll fall asleep and miss half of the movie.
The next day, I want to finish the movie, but have to wait 10 minutes to Fast Forward to find the middle of the movie where I fell asleep. Why isn't there a way to jump in 5 minute or 10 minute segments to pick up where you left off, instead of waiting forever wasting bandwidth? Maybe a "FF 8x", "FF 16x", "FF 32x".
Another thing. The basic listing in the "On Demand' guide no longer displays a "NEW" icon for newly listed movies in the premium movies section, unless you select a movie for "More Information", which uses up a lot of time when loading. The same applies for the year (date) of the movie, unless you click the "information tab". I like to watch new listings and can't remember what is new and what is old. Verizon touts about how many thousand movies it has, but leaves you in the dark.
I know, they have a section of "new movies", but I don't want to muddle through the PPVs and the "On Demand" trying to figure which is free and which will cost me, by selecting each movie one at a time to see if it is free or not.
Finally. If FIOS is so fast, then why is there an insane delay between clicks when navigating the "On Demand" menu? The little LED light on the box is instant when I click the remote, but the menu drags behind. I almost bought a few unwanted PPVs that way.
Sorry, one more thing. I hate the "On Demand" Search, because they do not tell you that the movie is from Encore, HBO, Cinemax, ShowTime or anything. You have to "Click and Hope" that the movie is in your package. If it isn't, the you have to search all over again.
I know there is a guide update coming, but if this isn't in it, then for the next round....
I would like the following: (bold most important, red super important)
Correct guide data. Several of the shows I watch regularly have overall series descriptions with no ep titles or anything else (Dragonball Z Kai for example).
Episode Title
Episode Season/Number (101,102,501, etc)
Original Air Date
These things should be in the initial view for when you go into the guide, without needing to click additional buttons, and then click again multiple times to return to live tv. Once click, scroll, see that stuff, exit, done. Additional info should only be needed/used on rare occasions.
Also, make this available in the info box that appears when changing channels in live tv mode.
These things should also be available in 0 or 1 clicks from the DVR guide list. When looking at upcoming or already recorded items, you may realize you've seen something since it happened in season 1, and want to delete without watching.
Related - be able to view guide data, full/additional info, for programs in the upcoming list in DVR.
New is only displayed if it is the first time it has aired ever, on any channel.
Get new icon for "new since being picked up in syndication on X channel" for those types of things, if needed. I personally don't care though.
Overall - reduce clicks to see pertinent data. Click into menu, give me most useful data immediately, and if needed, 1 more click for all data. Quick escape button back to main menu or live tv from there.
An ideal app for the new tablet devices such as the iPad and Samsung Galaxy (and the future Android 3.0 tablets) would be the ability to watch your STB content remotely through the tablet.
I currently use a third-party device to do this, and owing to its limited and questionable integration with the Verizon STB (via IR blaster) it is only a partial (and often unreliable) solution.
What would be ideal is to be able to stream (at fairly high quality, say DVD+) to the tablet and access DVR and On Demand content as well as regular channels.
Integrating the server-side feature of this into the STB would be a strategic move for Verizon, and might help its budding relationship with Apple.
This would be far more useful than the current apps (remote control and remote scheduling).
The FiOS Mobile App for streaming TV content on an IPad Already Exist. Comparable Apps for Android and Windows mobile devices are in the works. Updates to follow.
Currently most of your apps only work for android mobile devices. Is their a reason these apps are not available on adroid tablets as well?
IT WOULD BE GREAT IF FIOS OFFERED A WAY TO ACCESS INTERNET SITES. I WOLD LOVE TO GET TO MY SHUTTERFLY, AOL, ITUNES, WORK EMAIL AND OTHER THINGS WHILE I AM WATCHING A PROGRAM OR IN BETWEEN SHOWS..............MAYBE EVEN AN OPTIONAL WIRELESS KEYBOARD
Currently on boxes with img 1.8 - one is only able to play one hd program on a different box besides the multi-dvr. A great option would be the ability to play at a minimum 2 HD streams simultaneously on different boxes besides the multi-dvr. My family records almost everything in HD. If someone is using the DVR and someone else is watching a program streaming from the dvr - the 3rd person is unable to watch anything besides live TV or VOD. Anyone with kids or a big family knows that this can be a big pain.
Everything I have read about the new 1.9 img does not mention this capability. Sounds like a ton of great features but this issue is definitely one that needs to take top priority for those of us with the Multi-room dvr.
Any chance this is part of the 1.9 upgrade? If it is not part of 1.9 can someone explain if it's in development or theres a limitation hardware/software preventing it?
tv shows should have a VOD tab when u hit the info button. For example, I am watching As Good As Dead but I can't finish it right now. So, I hit the Info button 2x. I see Watch Now, Record, and Upcoming shows but no VOD. Please add VOD. Thanks
Could a widget be created for screen savers. Ideas like fish tank, fire place, and a way to load others.
With the new IMG 1.9, it won't matter anymore where a program is recorded, I'll be able to watch it anywhere.
So..
I'd like to set up a recording and let the DVR pool decide where to actually record the show based on available disk space and tuner availability.
This would reduce conflicts and would effectly load balance the available disk space on the DVRs.
