I think in a big household the parental control feature as it is now it not sufficient, especially if there are kids in different age groups.
My Idea is to have the parental control feature based on different User accounts (maybe combined with a finger scanner on the remote...), so that You are able to create different for everyone different (based on ratings or maybe include also a time limit).
Just this week, after reading all of the good things about the new Western Digital external hard drive that greatly expands the storage capacity of my DVR, I ordered one. When I connected and powered up the device, NOTHING HAPPENED. I called Verizon Tech Support. The person I reached had no idea what I was talking about, but he did go ask someone about it.
The information I received from him was VERY DISAPPOINTING. He told me that firmware release 1.9 was required for this device to work and my area did not have that version. Bottom line is that you folks at Verizon touted the device to me and got me to spend $100 on what is nothing more than an expensive paperweight until some unknown date when you choose to make release 1.9 available in my area. The fact that you do not disclose the requirement for 1.9 on your web site I find to be at least unethical and maybe even dishonest.
My NEW IDEA is that Verizon disclose all pertinent facts about products you are marketing to you customers BEFORE purchase, not after. This should not be a new idea for you, but it appears that it is.
Very often shows do not record and there is no explanation why.
On my old TiVo and DirecTv DVR's there was always a history taht told you why a show didnt record so you could fix the issue or discrepancy (overlap in time or conflict etc.)
At least once a week different shows that are in the Series Manager and not scheduled at the same time as other shows do not record. It could be as simple as it wasn't a new episode, but we have no way of knowing.
Also not being able to go back in the guide past the current time slot is annoying. Again all other DVR's I have had allow you to do this
I really would like my FIOS STB firmware to remember previous searches. I hate typing weekly the same shows. It is especially bad for shows with very common words. The current search works well for the popular shows since they are always shown first, but not so for less popular shows. Also limiting the search by title or actor/actresses would be great. The later could be done in the interface using check marks.
Also adding single button click to search ie... one of those unused A,B,C,D buttons on the remote.
I would like to be able to create a network of friends and family who also have FiOS TV and after I watch an on-demand movie be able to recommend it to certain people in that network. Would be great to be able to be able to use the remote to pay for the movie for them - maybe by purchasing a voucher or credit and suggesting they use it for that movie. Could even extend to recommending other shows, channels, sending short messages, or even things like virtual flowers.
I want to express my sincere frustration over the number of games not available in HD through the NHL Centre Ice package as it relates specifically to my Verizon FIOS TV service. I came over to FIOS in December of 2009 and much to my dismay the # of games being broadcast in HD vs. what I was getting via DirecTv was/still is surprisingly limited an not satisfactory at all. Directv typically broadcast 7-8 out of every 10 games that were shown on a particular night in HD whereas thru FIOS, I typically get only 1-2 games per night - not counting the games on Versus or NHL network. The only HD games I get thru FIOS are on channels 1473 and/or 1474. There might be as many as 6-8 other games being shown that evening that are available in HD but for some unknown reason they are NOT being shown in HD by Verizon FIOS. Frankly, I am sick and tired of complaing about this to customer service reps and supervisors and not getting an educated/straight answer as to why this is the case! So much so that if this doesn't change I will not only not be puchasing the NHL centre ice package I will be looking to return to DirecTv for my television needs. If this is a contractual issue between cable providers such as Verizon and either the NHL or more specifically the programming people of the NHL centre ice package then let me know that and I will voice my complaint/displeasure to them directly. It boggles my mind though as to why DirecTv would have 80% of the exact same games shown in HD and Verizon FIOS is lucky to show 20% of the same games in HD. This is a call to action and if I don't get a satisfactory reponse from someone involved with programming or management at Verizon FIOS I will be moving on to another provider ASAP.
1. The DVR will continually rerecord episodes (that I delete) that air again. The DVR needs a (TiVo) style history. Even the Comcast DVR has a Recorded History now. The same episode should not rerecord unless explicitly told to do so in a 15 to 30 day period.
2. Another addition needed would be a screen that shows all of the future recordings that will not record due whatever reason such as Priority.
3. When record "First Run Only" is selected, another feature needed is record the next airing if it is missed due to other programs having higher record priority.

Since Fios is such a huge company and offers a lot of useful services and features,it really surprises me that they haven't come up with the idea of video communication using your existing TV. When you receive a call, see and talk to the person over your TV. Seems pretty obvious since they already have a service that lets you see the caller ID on your TV. Why not take it one step further?
Former TiVo and DirecTV user. One feature I really miss is the ability to search using "show types". In particular, I used to have saved searches (that's another thing I miss!) for "season premiere" and "series premiere" so I could quickly scan the guide to see what new shows were coming up. Without this, it is too easy to forget to schedule a show I might want to record. There were lots of other options, like "first run" etc. Being able to narrow search results by various qualifiers would be very useful.
I think FlexView is a good idea but has a few drawbacks.
1) HD. I have not seen any FlexView titles in HD. I don't want to watch movies in SD on my HDTV.
2) Allow rentals to be upgraded to purchases. Many times I may rent a movie either because I'm not sure that I will like it or I might not watch it more than once. It would be nice if I could rent a FlexView movie at the cheaper rental price and then if I decide after watching the movie that I would like to purchase it, I can purchase it and get the rental price credited toward the purchase price. So if for example a movie costs 9.99 to buy and 2.99 to rent, if I rent it first and then decide to buy it, I would only pay the remaining 7.00 difference.
I know about the Flex View feature and request to be able to watch DVR content. How about a feature for Verizon Wireless users to watch their TV on their phone much like what the Slingbox can do. I am a customer to the Fios Triple Play package and have a VZ Wireplan and would like to see more features intergrated for being a customer of both. I have the original Droid phone and love the Fios feature already available. But to pay $80 for the NHL Live app and not even have my local team available does not make sense for me when I am already paying for TV and can just go buy a slingbox to let me watch whatver I want.
I recently got a 2nd receiver box for my bedroom and turned on the Home Media Function which seems to be rather disappointing and not the impression of its capabilities as described by the representative at the Verizon store. From what I gather the only feature is the ability to watch a recorded program that is on the DVR in my living room. I would had thought I could pause/play other current programs on the TV, delete recorded programs or at least manage the DVR in my living room from the bedroom set box. My only option now is to either walk downstairs to record a program or use the app on my iPhone to record something. It seems like if I can use an iPhone app to manage my downstairs DVR the least I should be able to do is do it through the Home Media function. Seems like for the same price per month I could just cancel the Home Media feature and get another DVR box, then record the programs on both DVRs so I get all the functions? Thanks for your thoughts or advice.
