Today on FIOS Digital Voice you must dial 10 or 11 digital dialing for all numbers even for numbers within the same area code. This is a major inconvenience for me as all of my phones, alarm system, etc. will have to be reprogrammed. 99% of our calls are in the same area code and having to dial the extra numbers is a nuisance and not worth switching.
Make digital voice 7 digital dialing for local calls and you got me as a customer for phone service. I will stick with my current VOIP provider until this change will occur.
Having to dial 10 digits is really a PITA right now. Verizon could easily provide a program option to cover this for each subscriber. However, looking back I remember not too long ago that all we had to do to dial a local number (in town number) was to dial the last four (4) digits. Then we had to go to dialing seven (7). Now it's ten (10). Progress. I'd say we should be able to program home phones just like a cell phone. Or better yet, ditch the home phone. Too bad cell service stinks in many areas.
I don't understand this issue.
I think every home phone made in the last twenty years has the ability to be programmed to dial 10 digits if needed. On my old copper POTS phones I have been required to dial 10 digits for all local calls for at least 15 years, probably more like 20 years, maybe even more. It took us about a week to get used to it.Switching to Digital Voice a year ago changed absolutely nothing regarding dialing local or long distance.
Check and see if your phone(s) will automate the 10 digits (we never bothered), if not, just bite the bullet and do the 10 digits, you will find it totally natural in a week or two.
IMO, this is the kind of suggestion where Verizon needs to provide a "no" voting option.
I think we should be able to phone our next door neighbor without dialing a area code.
You are most certainly entitiled to your opinion, but assuming you have FiOS Digital Voice it ain't gonna happen, you might as well just get used to it.
Oh, and it actually takes maybe a week or so to get used to it, here in my part of DFW we have been dialing 10 digits for probably at least 20 years, maybe more. No big deal.....
