12 volt battery replacement

Status: Acknowledged
by aggravated2012 on ‎06-07-2012 08:52 AM

Please inform your customer service representatives that those of us who cannot afford the 14.99 service plan need not be sent to Lowe's, Home Depot, or Radio Shack for a 12 volt battery. Those stores do not carry the 12 volt battery required to turn off the blasted alarm on the Verizon unit. Instead, ALL SERVICE REPS SHOULD KNOW TO DIRECT CUSTOMERS TO WWW.FIOS.ASURION..COM WHERE THEY CAN BUY THE 12 VOLT BATTERY. Verizon really should support customers rather than sell, sell, sell.

I'm pretty sure these are the batteries below:

http://www.radioshack.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=12v%20alarm%20battery&origkw=12v+alarm+batter...

http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-202942483/h_d2/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&keyw...

I don't think radioshack has them in-store anymore though.  You might be able to find them online even cheaper.  Just make sure that they have the same size and leads, and of course are 12V batteries.  The capacity rating doesn't matter as much; it only tells you how long it will last.  I think RS had an 8000mAh battery, whereas Verizon's was 7200.  Not much of a difference.

Depending on where you are located, you might try Batteries Plus, they seem to carry a huge selection of batteries here in the DFW area. If there is one of their stores in your area, you should be able to check the website and see if they carry the battery you need.

If it were me, I would remove the battery and take it with me to make sure I get a battery with the right connectors.

I take issue with having a service for (Phone / TV / Internet) not protected by the provider from power outages.  They promote the fiber as a more reliable solution then their Cable counterparts, however that all falls apart after the first year when the customer is (as pointed out to me) contractually responsible for replacing a battery, which will fail again in a couple of years.  Verizon should consider changing this policy and provide these batteries at no cost.  I am sure they could cover the additional expense  for the cost of one of their award winning commercials and end up delighting their customers at the same time.  The alternative would be to drop some or all of the services for a more reliable one and write hateful blog postings all over the internet.  OK I feel better now.....now what to do?
