No idea on the future updates. (I'm on 40.20.1  also.)   Did some more reading and found the following further into the user guide.  Anti-Phish is probably correct.
 
From User Guide:
"The USB ports provide up to 500 mA at 5VDC for attached devices (to charge a cell phone, for example). In the future, with a firmware release upgrade, the USB host functionality will be available for devices such as external storage and cameras."

But why did they make the usb more power ful to charge my iphone on the rev e but not the rev I, I don't get it because its supposeply suppose to be more advanced than the rev e.
