2 ACTIONTEC M1424-WR routers, 2 Locations, 1 Mac, 1 PC Notebook, No WiFi

I apologize if this looks long, but I thought it best to possibly give you extra info instead of not enough. I had Fios HDTV and Internet installed 6/2008 downstairs. My MacBook’s Airport worked great and I networked the HP printer also. My son got a PC notebook at Xmas and has problems with the wireless, but it is a Dell thing (just telling you). Recently, I moved my office upstairs and every thing continued to work great and my son could take his PC downstairs and plug into the router and his notebook connected fine. All of a sudden, my Mac started dropping connections and I would get at most one reception bar and low, low speeds. If I took it in the kitchen (about half way to router location), reception improved and had fewer disconnects. When I called Verizon, they naturally told me the wireless is only ‘guaranteed’ for 10 feet with no obstructed vision. I argued and they agreed to send me a new router. I was wrong, they were right – no improvement. I told them I would keep the 2nd modem and pay the added fees if I could set both computers up to work where they are – mine upstairs and my son’s downstairs. Right now, my is working great upstairs with the OLD router and my son’s works great downstairs if plugged into the OLD router. The new router doesn’t work for either computer. Is there anything I can do to use both router and accomplish my goal? Both routers are ACTIONTEC M1424 –WR’s

If it makes any difference, the original installation was downstairs and hor upstairs I only split the cable going to my HDTV into the back of the router and the STB.

You can have 2 Actiontec Routers if they are configured correctly.

Here is a FAQ with the information that you will need:
