9100EM Periodic loss of Internet

Hello,

Been using FiOS now for a few months for TV and Internet.  Everything works well except that once every few weeks, the router appears to completely hang and unable to access the internet from any of the devices at home (wired or wireless).  I am not even able to connect to the router via a wired computer to view the logs.  Only way out is a power cycle.

Anyone encountered similar issues and is there a fix for this?  I am using a Westell 9100EM.

Thanks.

#1 What is the exact ver of that Westell 9100EM?

#2 What firmware is installed on it?

#3 Do you have UPnP enabled in the router?

Here is the information from Status page:

Software Version: 1.02.00.04
Release Date: Aug 28 2008 Platform: Westell UltraLine Series3 Model Number: A90-9100EM15-10 INI File Name: 096-900205-02 INI File Version: A Hardware Version: A

I tried to upgrade Firmware but it appears I already have the latest.

UPNP is enabled.  I noticed that "Automatic Cleanup of Old Unused UPnP Services" was not Enabled and I just set it to Enabled.

Thanks!

Disable UPNP. Some game consoles and Windows Vista -7 reak havox on the router. It had been reported the the Windows software and game consoles try to manage the connection(router) and it causes problems.

OK. I disabled it.  Will wait to see if that fixes it.

Thanks for the suggestions.

If it happens again go and looka at the sytem log after you reset and see what info is there.  It's under system monitoring on the router admin page.

Router hung up again this evening.  First, I lost all wireless connectivity and few minutes later wired as well.

Couldnt connect to the router and had to do a power cycle.

After restart, went to look at syslog. I cant tell if it saved anything from before the cold boot.

Here are the snippets from the log. I have edited out the parts in between for brevity but can post the whole thing if required.

Any thoughts on what is causing this.  Will appreciate any insights on this issue.

Thanks!

Was there ever a resolution to this problem? I have the exact same problem, except some days my Westell hangs multiple times in one day.

Thanks!

Ok I know I just posted but I feel this is a really important issue Verizon has to address. Here's my story. I first had an actiontec Rev. A then B, then D, and finally E all these routers suffered from a Nat issue. Yes the actiontec revision E increased the Nat table but it still didn't increase greatly enough to use applications that need a lot of port openings. After these issues with the Nat I called up one of the supervisors Tim Trumann at Verizon and requested a westell because of the greater Nat table. I was denied that request. So I took matters into my own hand and bought a westell on eBay this was actually 1 of 3 I bought. I had to buy 3 because each one suffered these issues being addressed in this topic. Im an advanced computer user and am aware of things being fixed with firmware updates. So I tried updating the firmware to the latest. This didn't help. Not only does the internet randomly stop and disconnect when you use upnp with windows 7 the router acts up. And by the way in the latest firmware you can't even disable upnp. If you try to disable it , it still shows up enabled. Not only that I have an assignment for you Verizon get a Nintendo wii and disable wifi on the router and turn the router off and back on. You will see that the wifi still shows up as an available connection on the wii and is able to connect.  All these issues are disgraceful. The thing that really gets me upset is that Verizon expects us to stay on these routers or we loose functionality such as remote dvr and caller id on TV. Verizon needs to provide a fixed firmware for the actiontecs and westells which fix these issues. Otherwise release the port information for the people who are Ethernet provisioned so that they can portmap on there own routers for remote dvr and caller id on TV.
