As with many others I've been having issues gaming online with FiOS. I'm on my 3rd router now, currently an Actiontec M1424MR Rev F (changed from a Rev E and Ultraline because of online gaming issues).
I just read this on the PS3 manual online and my question is, is the Actiontec a NAT router? I only connect my ps3 to the router hardwired (never wireless). I've tried putting my PS3 IP into DMZ (both with and without a static IP for the PS3) and it doesn't help. I've never forwarded these port numbers though as suggested below. Is port forwarding necessary when hardwired?
Connecting to PlayStation®Network
When using PlayStation®Network in an office or a housing complex, security features such as a firewall may block the communications. In this case, refer to the following instructions.
In PlayStation®Network, you can communicate with PlayStation®Network servers on the Internet or directly with other PS3™ systems. Communication with PlayStation®Network servers on the Internet is done mainly when:
- Signing in / signing out
- Using your Friends list or block list
- Exchanging messages
- Using (PlayStation®Store)
The port numbers for PlayStation®Network servers used for this are TCP: 80, 443, 3478, 3479, 3480, 5223, 8080 and UDP: 3478, 3479.
For voice / video chat and online game play, direct communication with other PS3™ systems is used for data transmission during voice / video chat and online gaming. The port number used for this is UDP: 3658. However, you may need to use a different port number when you are connected using a NAT router.
- When you are using a router, direct communication with other PS3™ systems may be restricted depending on the type of router and its settings. When using a UPnP-compatible router, enable the UPnP feature.
- Communication may be restricted by routers and security functions provided by Internet service providers. Refer to the instructions supplied with the network device and the information from your Internet service provider.

I have never had to do anything with the actiontec router to get my PS3 running. In the default mode the PS3 uses UPnP to open the ports it needs

my ps3's are the same way, my netflix, hulu, amazon and vudu all work just fine right out of the gate, I could get internet without any problem, and most games would go online except modern warfare, and I had to port forward for that one game.
I think in general though it connects with UPNP just fine and little to no port forwarding is needed.
Another thing you can TRY if you still can't get it, is to find the ip address of your ps3 and just put it in the DMZ of the actiontec. DMZ is found under the firewall settings.
I read on some ps3 forums, that certain streams will not work in dmz mode, so YMMV
