Assistance needed in setting up Macbook and Fios internet

Message 1 of 7

I had no problem setting up a macbook pro but I cannot get a macbook set up. I either get a connection timeout or invalid password message. I have checked the compatibility that Verizon says will work and confirm that the macbook has the specifications needed. What am I missing...doing wrong? Why is there so little documentation for assisting Mac users?

It sounds like you are trying to establish a wireless connection.

If so try putting a $ in front of the WEP Key.

(I remembered seeing this in an earlier thread a few weeks ago)

also make sure you are doing "wep password" when you are choosing the security from the drop down list when making a new connection.

Thanks for all suggestions...none of them worked. Time to try Verizon...very frustrating!

You may need to reset your keychain:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1544

This game me trouble a little while ago - I had a wireless network running under a given name - SSID_NNN.  When I set up the FiOS router, I used the same SSID name, but a different encryption scheme.  When I would try to log in with my powerbook, it would try the old encryption scheme and fail.

ETA: If you're using WEP, you might want to try a different security setting.  It sounds like some Macs have trouble with WEP: http://forums.verizon.com/vrzn/board/message?board.id=FiOS_Internet&message.id=6199&query.id=556181#...

You set it for WEP 40bit hexidecimal and typed in the 10 digit passcode?
