Broadcasting 2 SSID's
LordHowitHurtz

I set up my router (MI424WR) with a new ssid, password and increased security.

Now when connecting my laptop the router is broadcasting two ssid's. One is what I named it and the second one has a number 2 next to it. They both work the same and have the same security protocols I set, it's just there are two of them and I can't figure out why or how to get rid of one.

Go to network and sharing, click on manage wireless networks and then you will see your profiles, you should be able to delete one of them from there.

As the previous poster has indicated, the router is not advertising out two SSID's.  You have two profiles in windows with the same name.  A profile is associated with your WLAN configuration set up.  You can name the profile anything you want as long as the SSID name and security settings match.   As the previous poster said, delete one of them and you should be set.
