I am having Verizon FIOS internet installed in two weeks but I am confused about a few things, mainly my ability to keep other companies services running in my house uninterrupted. I want to keep ATT for our home phone and Dish network for our television as I am happy with them. Will the installation of Verizon Fios Internet affect either of these services or make it impossible for us to keep them? Does the technician have to switch our phone system over to the Verizon fiber network or can we keep the old copper line phone system we have? I am concerned that this will keep us from being able to call using ATT. Thanks in advance everyone!

Yes, you can keep phone and TV from other companies and have FIOS internet.

But depending on how your home is currently wired there could be snags with the install. Potentially a new coax for the internet.  You should be sure the technician who connects FIOS understands what you want. And don't what you don't want. And verify all services work properly before he leaves.

In addition to Walt's advice, you may want to consider having your Internet set up using Ethernet WAN rather than coax WAN.  This may sound complicated but it's actually pretty simple.  The install tech can arrange this during the actual installation.

Are you sure AT&T controls your local loop for phone?  If they still do (I thought they were out of the local loop business), then you should be able to order just Internet from Verizon, not TV or phone.

Does AT&T have fiber in your area? Uverse?

As said above, Verizon would have to run a new cable (Coax or Ethernet) in order to connect the router. Make sure they know not to take over the satellite cable wiring.

Thanks everyone for the helpful responses...I may need to go ahead and look at getting Uverse, if I can get an internet only option...it may be the simplest option and save a tech the time and frustration of an out-of-the-ordinary installation.
