FIOS I-Net is very good for hhtp or https Web requests
1) Problem: Ping ( from Command Prompt) possibly Blocked on FIOS
get Time outs
works great on Non-FIOS networks
2) Problem: SSH (Secure Shell Windows Application) possibly Blocked on FIOS
can NOT Connect - get Time outs
also works great on Non-FIOS networks
Why might FIOS be Filtering Network Commands? also Secure Shell?
Are we limited Only to http and https Web Requests ? Cable I-Net allows PING and SSH
Or What did I forget to SetUp? Where might I find that Info ?
Thank you in Advance for any Assistance on this

I can sucessfully ping some sites and not others. For example, I just pinged nortex.net ok, cannot ping lakekiowatx.com, it times out after about 12 hops. So I don't think it is Verizon that is blocking pings, I think it is somewhere out there in the great big internet "cloud" that is blocking you (and me).
I have no clue about SSH, have never used it.
Is there a specific site you cannot reach that we could try?

charlys20,
You really, really need to edit that post if you still can, or do it again, it is unreadable (well, it really is readable, I guess, but trying to read it is making my head hurt...)
I know what SSH is, I have just never used it and thus there is no way I can tell you what FiOS may or may not do to it.

Yeh, your block of text is hard to read for some of us =[
In the end we don't block SSH. If you wawnt to learn more about SSH, check out this I just found, SSH LINK
As far as ICMP (pinging) a lot of hosts will have ICMP requests turned off at their firewall/router. They do this to avoid ICMP attacks, pings of death, what ever you want to call it.

Hello,
Well, I've learned that when I Offline Compose/Edit, and then Cut'n'Paste to this Forum, yes, my Text Formatting gets Lost,
and regrettably, I posted a Long-RunOn Post.
My Apologies to all for this. Now I know that you can't Paste to this Forum - just Type and things ought to be OK.
As far as my original post, namely my issue of not being able to Ping or SSH from my Home Workstation --
If I could E-mail to Verizon FIOS support, then I would have done that. Sadly, I could not find how to E-mail FIOS Support
or perhaps there might be some info how-to E-mail FIOS Support and that ought to be Prominently Displayed.
Run my SSH application and get a "can't Connect" followed by Pinging the same site when others (yes, mostly on Cable) can
is Puzzling. Verizon FIOS "we are the Greatest" - and I agree, except when things don't work.
And no easy way to reach FIOS Support - just Maddening!
to CharlesH, you may be a Verizon FIOS Employee, right? - please post how I might E-mail FIOS Support and I'll be a Happier FIOS Customer. I really DO Need that.
I need Verizon FIOS to just declare "we Don't Filter anything" and I'll do my Engineering Investigation. Anything is possible until the Problem is Located.
from sites that disable Ping'ing, you get a 'Connection Refused', not a TimeOut - pure conjecture on my part (ie Work Experience, Education).
If SSH not supported, then ftp is probably also a no-go. How many other Network things don't / might also not work?
I'm a Happy Camper with http and htps requests on Verizon FIOS. If everything else is questionable, and I really have to use them although infrequently, then I've gotta plan accordingly.
Now if some kind Soul might just Post how I may E-mail Verizon FIOS Support, then I'd be grateful (and I'll deal directly)
And ... Thanks to all that have Replied

Yes I am an employee of verizon telecom.
We do not have a email address for FiOS support that I know of. (I will double check just to verify since it would be much easier to troubleshoot through email than over the phone personally)
Known ports that are restricted on Verizon FiOS: None. (Contacted a network tech for verification, if you don't believe this is true let me know. Be glad to get another contact for verification)

Actually you can cut and paste from Office (MS Word), just be sure to use the "Paste from Word" icon, the one with the "W" on it, it is just to the left of the smiley in the forum editor.
I don't pretent to understand your problem, but as I said before, I can ping some sites and not others, and the ones that don't ping do get outside the Verizon network before the ping fails. So I really don't understand how Verizon could be preventing the ping from working.

Thank you - ooops, I can't cut'n'paste from NotePad to the Forum here; just plain text in NotePad and only with <LF> character - even the <LF> isn't maintained.
Wow! I have to cut'n'paste from Word ! If I'm at a Public Terminal, probably don't have access to Word. Perhaps someone might send a Note to the Webmaster (Future Enhancement).
And I do appreciate all the other Help here otherwise.
