I'm sorry, you are going to have to give us more info - are you using an email client like Outlook Express or Windows Mail, or a web browser-based email client? And what do you mean "updated"? You applied some service, installed a new product, what?
If you are using Outlook Express, for example, there is an option to not allow viewing of attachements; the default setting for this changed at an early Service Pack (don't remember which one), so if you maybe just installed SP3 on top of an older XP system, this could be the cause. To fix it, go to Tools ==> Options ==> Security and remove the checkmark from "Do not allow attachements to be saved or opened....."
If this is not the problem, tell us more about what email you are using.
