I don't know if probate is the right word.
I'm in a two year contract for 50/50 internet. I've been paying $10/month to rent the router for almost a year. My monthly bill is about to go up another $10 for the second half of the contract, and I was wondering, since I've paid $10/month for 11 months, could I only pay the difference to buy the router? If that makes sense.
Basically I've paid $110 in rent for the router
Buying the router is $149.99
Since I've paid $110, and the difference to buy is $39.99, could I just pay that to buy it?
Or would I really have to pay an additional $149.99 to buy it, on top the $110 I've already paid in rent?

No is the answer.
Verizon does not prorate the router for sale. You can at different times of the year get the Verizon Quantum Gateway for $50, $99 or if they want to keep you on occasion you might get it for free.
Verizon makes money on the rentals. Then you either keep paying for rental or pay the going rate.
Good Luck
