Copper Wire to FIOS ?

Verizon sent us a letter....They want to convert our copper "twisted pair" to FIOS.

We have DSL and phone.......I'm skeptical!

We have certainly had noise problems in the past on the phone, that's for sure!

In the service order, it says...You will receive a monthly 40.00 charge waiver for as long as you have FIOS!

This was supposed to be "revenue neutral", so why is a credit needed.

Thanks..not sure in NJ.....Ken.

Yea Dave, may do that.

I do know I would rather use my Netgear dual band "N" router than these trouble prone Actiontec's I keep reading about here!

Call Verizon and state you want to see what they mean in documentation/writing.

There's nothing really wrong with the ActionTec Router and you will need it if you go with FiOS TV.

However if you don't you could have tghe Verizon installer provision your ONT for CAT 6 Ethernet instead of RG6 coaxial cable and then you could use the Netgear Router instead of the ActionTec.

If you called in a bunch about copper troubles to Verizon, I can see why they're moving you to Fiber. I'd take the deal (as long as you can get it writing of course) if you're still having issues, because chances are the copper will break in short order once again even when fixed. Plus we all know how Verizon's looking to shut off the copper network or at least DSL.

I had a similar deal pitched to me a while back when they were wiring up the neighborhood. Basically they offered to switch out the copper DSL / voice for fiber and give me 'somewhat' faster speed (3m vs 1.5m) for the same price or less.

Paying for tv/internet/phone was more like $85/mo without a tv box (extra charge). The 3m internet and phone was something like $40 or somesuch.
