I have internet-only service with Verizon and I'm just one person with one connection needed at the place I live. I don't need any router. Is there a way to ask for only the direct ethernet connection? I remember right before the service person came, I was able to connect to internet with direct connection. After he set up the router, the direct connection does not work anymore. Is this just a switch Verizon turns on and off?
Thanks,
cpliu

You need to release the WAN IP address in the router. It is MAC address bound. You can call and have Verizon release the IP address from their end. Once that is done you can plug in your computer directly.

Thank you for the quick response. It's very helpful. A few more questions I have:
1. Can I do it from my end or it can only be handled from Verizon?
2. Does this mean I would be able to use any other routers in the future?
Thanks,

Thanks,
You can do it.
It's under the mey network tab, connections
When you release it disconnect or turn off the router immediately

Thanks,
As long as you are not a TV subscriber to FIOS you can use any router you want.

"As long as you are not a TV subscriber to FIOS you can use any router you want."
As a FiOS TV subscriber you can use a third party router (e.g. Linksys WRT1900AC) as the primary device for Internet & Wireless service and create a MoCA bridge with Verizon's router (e.g. MI424WR) to support VOD, Program Guide, etc., service.

Thank you for the information. I'm not familiar with the network or routers, I checked My Network > Network Connections and see the 3 options, which one should I disable or enable?
