A really easy way to test the credentials themselves is to go to the http://start.verizon.net web portal and use the problem user name and password to try & log in there (links like “My Account” in upper rt corner of page)  if the Vz site passes the credentials there trouble shooting can proceed confidently locally on the computer or mail client.
