One of the door to door salesmen was in my neighborhood and talked to me about some FIOS packages. I wanted to give it a try since it was faster than Comcast. I told him I didn't want to sign up if there were a bunch of fees. He said "no problem, there's only one fee and just ask my boss to waive it when she calls".
I got a billing estimate emailed to me with a $69.99 activation fee. His boss never called me, and when I called Verizon to ask to have it waived, they told me tough luck.
So it seems your sales guys will say anything to make a sale even though it's untrue.
