FIOS Internet cuts out at the top of every hour

Message 1 of 7

My wireless FIOS internet connection on my desktop cuts out for about 15 seconds at the top of each hour.  After the 15 seconds, the connection reestablishes and is fine until the top of the next hour.  It's annoying when I'm doing online work or streaming a signal.  I've checked all over for solutions, but haven't been successful in finding a definitive answer.  I'm guessing it has something to do with the IP address possibly changing.  Any help to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. Have you tried doing a pin hole reset on  the router? Also does this issue happen with multiple devices connected to it?

IT would also help to know what Operating system you are running  and --- a long shot here - if you run  Windows take a look at task scheduler to see if anyting is set to run hourly.

To bring it up open the run dialog and - taskschd.msc  - Then single click  task scheduler library.

Have you checked the logs in the router?  They could possibly give you some indication of what is going on.

The router's WAN DHCP lease interval is 2 hours.  At 1/2 the lease interval (1 hour), the router will renew the WAN DHCP lease.  This should not cause any disruption to your connection.  It's also unlikely that this is occurring at the top of the hour, although it's possible.

Thanks for the reply.  I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.  My wife does not encounter the same problem on either her all-in-one or her laptop, so the problem seems to be limited just to my desktop (unfortunately, my laptop is mothballed).

I brought up the Task Scheduler and under the General Tab of the Task Scheduler Library, the only thing listed is Adobe Flash Player Updater.  Under Description, it reads: "This task keeps your Adobe Flash Player installation up to date with the latest enhancements and security fixes. If this task is disabled or removed, Adobe Flash Player will be unable to automatically secure your machine with the latest security fixes."  Under Triggers, it reads: "At 9:15 pm every day - After triggered, repeat every 1 hour for duration of 1 day."

Could this be the issue?  If so, what action should I take?

Thanks.

Once logged into the router, I could not exactly find the router's WAN DHCP.  Under Configure Network (Home/Office), I did find a "Least Time in Minutes" of "1440" (24 hours).  Am I looking in the right area?

Thanks.

What is your laptop model number? if your wifes laptops/pcs are fine.

I think you may have problem with your wifi driver , if you give me the model I will find the driver for you *updated* driver for wifi.

I recently fixed a same issue for my friend.

Considering the trigger is set to happen hourly I would right click on the task and disable it, it may be corrupted or invalid. open control panel - Flash player 32 bit- advance tab - change update settings - notify me to install updates- and you will get updates without the need for any task scheduler entry. Also is the active X version 11.7.700.202 ? that is the current one.
