FIOS Qauntum 75//35 with old ONT question.

Hello. I just recently upgraded from FIOS 15/5 over to Quantum 75/35 and was wondering to I need to upgrade my ONT at my house?  I was told by a Verizon CR person that I didnt need to upgrade the ONT unless my Quantum package was over 100+ speed wise.  Thre reason Why I'm asking this is that the speed test at http://speedtest.verizon.com/fios300/ is showing my speeds close to 75/35 or just right a times. When I try other speeds tested like speedtest.net or others their speeds are very inconsistent and more like a 50/25 Quantum package.  Also when I download something I'm always getting around 5.5mbs instead of around 9.3mbs .   Please advise.  My connection speed seems to be ok but download is a different story.  Please advise.  I dont want to pay for  something that I'm not getting.  Thanks in advance.

If you could get a picture or make and model of your ONT, we'll be able to tell you if it is in need of an upgrade. If you are getting full speed to a Verizon speed test but are not getting consistent speeds elsewhere, there's likely something else going on besides an old ONT.

When ISPs promise you a certain speed that is to the internet, not to any point on the internet.  The further you go, the more chances you have for congestion and speed reduction.  So the Verizon speed test will normally show better results because they are testing to their server.  Speedtest.net is going further on the net, increasing the opportunity for speed reduction.

Download speeds are dependent on the distance to the source server and that server's load.  It is unlikely that those speeds will ever equal the promised speed. The 5.5mbs - 9.3mbs does seem low. But there are other factors beyond your connection that can influence it.

the second one is your ont.   the one that says motorola, and it will do the 75 plan no problem.   When you go up past 100 is when you will need a new one.
