Had FIOS installed about 1-1/2 yrs ago for internet. (Westell router) Internet and WiFi work just fine. Personally I am not impressed as I don't see any difference between the DSL that we had, and what we have now. However, since the installation of FIOS, our cordless phones (Uniden) always seem to have static. It is a pain in the rear to turn circles or move a foot in any direction just to get a clear connection. Changing chanels does not make any difference. Could there be any realationship between FIOS and the static we are getting? Is it a sign that the cordless phone is wearing out? (phone is 6 or 7 yrs old). Thanks for any info you can give me.

yes, of course the phone is wearing out.
But also, CHANGE THE BROADCAST CHANNEL on the router. I had this issue and just changed mine to channell 11, permanently, and it has been fine. I know your comment states that changing channels made no difference, but, since you were ONLY speaking about your phone, I assumed you meant changing channels on the phone (not the router)(there is a difference).
NOTE that if you ever need to reset your router it will loose the broadcast channel reassignment and go back to starting at channel 1, so youi would need to reset that setting back to channel 11.
try that.

check to see if your phone is a 2.4 gigahertz , it should say the frequency on the handset or base. if so you are hearing the wireless data from your router (sounds like static or ticking). 2.4 cordless phones are no longer produced and this frequency is reserved for wireless network devices. turn the router off and see if it goes away.

Thank you for the replies as to what the problem could be. You are correct in that I have changed the channel on the phone but not the router. 2.4 gigahertz.....my phone must be right out of the stone age. The handset says 900Mhz and there is nothing in the manual that says otherwise. Looks like I will be shopping for a newer phone. Thanks again.
