I believe this is a problem with the route because when I use a different connection i get to facebook just fine.. It's super fast on other ISPs and even faster over 3G, than it is on my fios connection.. Here is my trace out to FB during a slow period. The first ping spike is on the 8th hop. ATL1.gblx.net

Tracing route to www.facebook.com [69.171.224.11]

OH and oddly enough, when Facebook is slow, if I go to speedtest.verizon.net and choose Georgia as the test region, my download speed is 456kb/s... Very slow.  Here is a speed test that I performed during a slow period: Look how low the inbound speed is compared to outbound.

Checking for Middleboxes . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Done
SendBufferSize set to [261360]
running 10s outbound test (client to server) . . . . . 13.53Mb/s
running 10s inbound test (server to client) . . . . . . 467.23kb/s

and here is a speed test run choosing the Florida region during the same time. Showing that I have a healthy connection to my house:

Checking for Middleboxes . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Done
SendBufferSize set to [261360]
running 10s outbound test (client to server) . . . . . 22.26Mb/s
running 10s inbound test (server to client) . . . . . . 29.84Mb/s

I am also experiencing consistent evening slowness using Facebook. I'm on the FIOS 15Mbps plan in Poughkeepsie, NY. In general service declines in the evenings but fb is hit hardest. The fb page takes takes a while to load and photos load slowly. What's particularly odd is that ping times are still super fast. And results from speedtest.net show 20Mbps download speeds.

$ ping facebook.com
PING facebook.com (69.63.189.16): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 69.63.189.16: icmp_seq=0 ttl=243 time=262 ms
64 bytes from 69.63.189.16: icmp_seq=1 ttl=243 time=130 ms
64 bytes from 69.63.189.16: icmp_seq=2 ttl=243 time=15 ms
64 bytes from 69.63.189.16: icmp_seq=3 ttl=243 time=17 ms
64 bytes from 69.63.189.16: icmp_seq=4 ttl=243 time=19 ms
64 bytes from 69.63.189.16: icmp_seq=5 ttl=243 time=18 ms
64 bytes from 69.63.189.16: icmp_seq=6 ttl=243 time=19 ms
64 bytes from 69.63.189.16: icmp_seq=7 ttl=243 time=20 ms
64 bytes from 69.63.189.16: icmp_seq=8 ttl=243 time=20 ms

I have also tried logging on from another ISP at the same time and fb is responsive. Is fb throttling fios users? Is Fios throttling down fb usage?  I can't explain this.

Big thread too here: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r25813544-Northeast-Facebook-Latency~start=50 Fios is have huge problems with facebook in the evenings. No problem when connecting from other ISPs. Verizon needs to get on this and fix it.
Re: Facebook - Apparently FIOS doesn't like that site. Comcast loves it though.

Interesting..wonder if the CDN farm that serves FIOS users is saturated again.

I contacted Verizon technical support and she chatted with an NT who told her to send a tech to my house -_-...

My house is fine.. I'm at my provisioned speed lmao.

Sounds like global crossing is sucking..

When I am at home, I turn wifi on my cell off because even the facebook android app is almost unusable when my phone's wifi is going through Verizon fios

BTW, I have a similar problem with Youtube sometimes... Youtube sucks on Fios but is fine on a different ISP

Yep - slow here too.  Pretty much unusable from my FIOS from 6pm until around midnight.  I'm curious why it's taking so long to fix this issue, an issue that seems to be a popular issue right now.  It's faster on my 3g mobile broadband card than it is with FIOS - so I know it's an issue with some of the routing.  Other sites appear to be loading fine, just facebook.

Let's get this thread some momentum. If you have slow facebook in the evenings reply to this thread.

I think this deserves some priority since Facebook is such a huge part of everyone's daily internet routine.

This has been an issue for months - but has become worse recently when VZ started routing to Global Crossing instead of Level3 to get to the Facebook servers.

Someone needs to pass this onto the NOC and have the engineers look at the routing in place.

Here on Long Island my wife has been complaining recently how slow facebook is.  I thought FB was getting hit with something and didn't realize it was a problem with the VZ network.
