FioS Internet service in other rooms

Hi,

This problem might have been discussed several times in this forum. If you can provide the links as answer is also fine.

I have broadband internet service only (no TV) in my home and it comes through Coaxial cable that is connected to my Fios Router in the 1st floor living room area. The wall socket here has one available ethernet port. Verizon technician said, if I connect any open ethernet port from the router to this port on the wall, then all the other rooms that has ethernet ports should get the internet connection.

My issue here is my game room has only coax output and I need to connect my TV/gaming device to the internet here. How do I achieve this when there is no ethernet port availble in this room.

Please suggest me adapters and steps to achieve this.

Thanks,

SP

Don't you have wireless?

Would that help fix your issue?

Hello,

Actually, you could possibly use the Coax for data. You would have to trace back the coax from that room, and see if it eventually connects to the same coax cables as your router. If it does, you can create a MoCA bridge, using the coax as ethernet to connect to your router.

You will need a device to connect to the coax to convert it to ethernet. These devices are mostly plug and play, but I would need to know the model of your Verizon router to be sure.

You can find devices like these on amazon such as this one made by actiontec: http://amzn.com/B008C1JC4O

However, if your looking for a cheaper alternative, you could also use another Verizon router to bridge the two. If you search ebay for example you can find tons of used Verizon Actiontec routers that could be used for this under $30. If you do go this route, Actiontec has a writeup on how to configure another Verizon router to bridge your connection to your main verizon router: http://support.actiontec.com/doc_files/Configure_MI424WR_as_a_LAN_MoCA_Bridge.pdf

Hope this could help Smiley Happy

** EDIT **

Just wanted to add, DSL reports does a better job of explaning it than I could:
