I am wondering what is required to use my own router for my internet connection?

Does the router have to be from a major manufacturer to qualify or does a linux router qualify?

If you have FIOS TV then the Actiontec wil have to be in the configuration some how if you want guide data and VOD.

You can use your own router with FIOS.  Here is a FAQ on teh carious combinations, and there pros and cons:

This depends on whether or not you have seperate ONT's for the business account and the res account. If you have Business Internet and have the installer run ethernet, then you may use any router or configuration you want.  Then the residental ONT will have it's own ActionTech router and will not affect your other setup.
