Fios availability in Spotsylvania, VA

When will Verizon expand the Fios service to all of Spotsylvania, VA.  It was explained to me 5 yrs ago that Verizon was not expanding DSL to my area due to the roll out of Fios and that some households in my area already had Fios and Verizon was actively upgrading to expand service to my street/address......it's been 5 years and I still only have the option of dial-up or wireless service, now the word on the street is that Verizon is not expanding to new markets.  So where does that put me and my neighbors??  Since Fios is within 7-8 miles (maybe closer) of my address and within my county of residence, would my address be considered a "new market"?  I have seen no less than 3 utility crews a the end of my street burying the orange conduit for either cable or phone lines in addition to the crews burying orange conduit all over the county....is there anyone that works for Verizon that can provide a REAL answer to my question without trying to fry my brain while spouting technical and engineering terminology?  I get that the new technology requires substantial upgrades to the communication infrastructure, but Verizon has been working on installing Fios in my area for over 5 years.

I've been asking the same question of Verizon for several years.  Our area (Bluffs) of our development (Fawn Lake) has had FiOS from the beginning - we don't even have copper in the ground.  However, there is no TV as they don't seem ready to invest the big bucks on front end equipment until they have a big enough customer base around here to justify it.  However, there seems to be a GREAT deal of activity in Fawn Lake right now putting in FiOS throughout the portions of the development that have not had it up until now.  I'm hoping - but have not been able to get any confirmation - that this means they are reaching critical mass of FiOS-equipped customers and will be putting in the necessary front end equipment.

I was about to switch from DirecTV to something cheaper but am now waiting.  I don't want to sign a new 2 year contract with someone and then get FiOS TV the next week.  We'll see how long I can hold off.

FTTP Construction Locations

FiOS Installation Process

This is for VA specific.      not sure how often they update, but this is their currently posted info on construction locations for FiOS

*edit

Looks like they took down current construction locations,  what you may want to do is surf around at your VA community page, and see if there is good contact us info, and see if you can send them a request for update to that first link.   www.verizon.com/va

If FIOS internet is available, but not TV, it is more likely the VZ does not have a franchise agreement with your city and has nothing to do with VZ investing in head-end equipment.

Regarding the county licensing, I checked on that and found that there is FIOS TV in other parts of the county.  It appears that there simply hasn't been enough of a FIOS customer base in this part of the county to justify the TV distribution equipment costs.  I understand this and am just happy that the customer base is expanding.

I actually got a call back from "escalations" a few days ago.  They left a message saying that TV is now available and giving me a phone number to call to get it.  When I called, the team I was connected to had no new info about availability.  They promised to research it with engineering and get back to me soon.  I'm still waiting but am certainly more optimistic than I was a few weeks ago.

An update since my last post:

Even though I got a call from "escalations" telling me FiosTV was indeed available in my area, and giving me a phone number to call and set it up, calls to that group have resulted in the same "not available in your area" response.  Both phone reps have said they would contact "engineering" and get back to me with the most up-to-date answer.  No one has called back.

Interestingly enough, I did get an email saying I had submitted a complaint against "escalations."  I'm not sure where this came from, but I responeded to the survey with the entire story.  We'll see where that gets me.

I did have a maintenance visit from the Fios Internet group when the power supply for the Fios entry point went bad.  He fixed that and upgraded my router with no charge, but also told me that, even though there is Fios TV in parts of Spotsylvania county, we get service from the Chancellorsville hub.  Maybe that's the point of confusion.

I'll keep trying.

I'm on the old side of Fawn Lake and have been trying to get information on the trenching.  They trenched the street in front of us in April, and my husband said that when he talked to the Verizon contractor outside that they didn't think they would be done till May or June.  He said that after that, it would take a few months to get a permit for FiOS to be permitted through the battlefield, and considering how difficult permits are to get in the county, it might take forever.

Currently, they only offer Verizon phone service, and it's very noisy and expensive.  We would love to try the digital phone, tv, and internet fios bundle to try it out.  We have the Comcast Blast (30 mbps) but it has been unreliable thus far.  In the past areas we've lived in, we've never had this sort of trouble with Comcast high-speed internet before.  We're using DirecTV for our TV, but honestly I was a bit ticked off about them not providing the Disney Junior Channel when it first came out.  Still waiting for them to add that channel.

Anyway, Verizon has an oppty to steal business from Comcast and DirecTV, but I guess they are in no hurry.

Seems like the same thing is happening in Stafford County.  Most of the eastern part is wired for FIOS, but keep going west and it's not available to the homes that are on more then 2 acres it seems.  I have been trying to find out when it will be available in the GLENS subdivision off of Stefaniga road and no one ever knows or contacts me back.

The installation of lines by Verizon (I'm assuming it's Fios related) has expanded significantly outside the Fawn Lake borders and now extend all the way up to State Road 3.  I believe the closest Verizon facility (are they still called Central Offices?) is a small building up on Route 3, so it may be that we cannot get TV until they complete the run out to that building.

Here's hoping.

It finally happened.  I received a letter last week saying FiOS TV was available at my specific address.  A visit to the AT&T store to discuss my options seemed more comforting than speaking with who-knows-who over the phone, and I signed up immediately.  My box of equipment arrived, my account went active today, and now we're watching FiOS TV.  Finally!!!
