G1100 use as access point vs a WCB6200Q w/G1100 'primary'.

I have a 2d G1100 and I'd like to use as a 'Extender' vs the use of a WCB6200Q, reason being I was gifted the G1100 and I'd like the use of the 4 vs 2 LAN connections. There's no TV involved and only Ethernet to the 1st G1100, 2d G1100 connection will be COAX/MoCA from the 1st. I'd like to use the same SSID info for the WiFi etc.

I see similar questions but no direct reference to what needs changed in G1100 'primary' and 'secondary' management settings. Rather than just 'poke around' and 'tinker' I thought I'd just ask first. I checked many links for SON etc but none directly address what interests me.

Certainly I'd think others have done the same as I'm interested in. Search hasn't surfaced a definitive procedure for me.

I'd appreciate some help.

Here are some trade offs for you first.

Technical Specifications:

G1100: MoCA 1.0/1.1/2.0

WCB6200Q: MoCA 1.0/1.1/2.0/Bonded 2.0

Case 1:  G1100 and G1100

Linked with MoCA 2.0, which speed is capped at 500Mbps. therefore bottlenecking the second G1100 ethernet ports to 500Mbps.

Case 2:  G1100 and WCB6200Q

Still linked with MoCA 2.0, WCB6200Q will be bottlenecked to 500Mbps throughput. In case you want to upgrade the main router to G3100 or a standalone MoCA Bonded 2.0 adapter in the future, you can have the capability to reach 1.0Gbps.

I would recommend use two G1100.

Regarding the steps for setup, you need to disable WAN connection and DHCP server on the secondary G1100. Of course change the secondar G1100 to have a different LAN IP address first. I answered these steps many times on this forum (not to complain).

Connected as you mentioned (in the linked thread) the WiFi would remain configured using the same 'Password' as the  'primary G1100' and connect without issues? I need to route the COAX to the room where needed. Do I need to change anything in the wireless settings of the 2d G1100 to allow wandering through the building and having WiFi devices just remain connected to the stronger antenna signal.

I absorbed most of what you mentioned in that thread I believe. In my primary G1100 now it says COAX = 0. When the 2d is connected that should change and show 1?

Reset will return 2d G1100 to what it is currently to retry?

***I have Ethernet readily available. If I connected LAN to LAN for an initial set-up, then removed the Ethernet cable, connected COAX to COAX will MoCA automatically be activated and it will 'just work'?

For devices' ease to connect with WiFi, you should have the same SSIDs for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz on both routers, and the same passwords for both frequencies on both routers. Assuming you have not touched other settings, then it should be working. The device will connect to the stronger signal router (really is an access point now).

Not quite. We are not doing math here, though I will talk about this. Primary G1100 Coax connection count = 1 (2nd G1100) + # (devices connected to 2nd G1100's ethernet, 2.4G or 5GHz). Secondary G1100 Coax connection count = 1 (1st G1100) + # (devices connected to 1st G1100)

Why are you resetting the device?

If your LAN Coax is not disabled. It should work just as you plug a coax cable into them. If you have "ethernet readily available," then just leave it as is with G1100 <LAN--LAN> G1100 (remote place), unless you want a more ethernet port at the 2nd G1100. Do not uplink 2nd G1100 with both LAN Coax and Ethernet!
