G3100 Router Restarting Itself

Hello! For the past few days my G3100 keeps restarting itself. With the whole coronavirus situation going on I can't get a replacement or a technician out to test the line to the house or the ONT. I managed to get a log while it was happening. When it happens my internet gets slow and then goes completely out on both wired and wireless connections.

here are some logs.

#1 While we get that you have FIOS Internet, do you also have FIOS TV?

Please note for this next question even if you have another one that is not use, you must say no. For example: No, but it is a spare.

Q 2: Is that the only router that you have?

#3 If no to that question: What is the brand and model of the other router?

Please note for this next question: One of the NICs must be a wired NIC.

Q 4: Do you have spare computer that works that either has two NICs or you could add a second NIC?

Q1- Yes we have fios tv
Q2- Yes it's the only router hooked up. I do have the G1100 from my last plan still that NEVER lost connection
Q4- I don't think it's going to be a NIC issue. Everything drops. Wifi, ethernet... The router shuts all lights off when it occurs.

I am having the same exact issue here and really only over the past couple of weeks. I replaced the G1100 with this along with my old extenders. Got the 3100 and two 3200 extenders. Worked great for a week in March but now it randomly reboots every day, maybe twice a day.

I figured it was because everyone is home during this pandemic and the pipe is overwhelmed on the Verizon side, but I actually got someone on the phone and they told me I am losing internet between the ONT and the router.  I don't know I replaced the ethernet cable and the coax and still having the prob. I restored defaults and still having the problem. This is definitely a router issue and they need to fix this.

If I were you, i would go back to the older router (G1100).

And I need more wi-fi range, I would convert a router into acting as if it was only a hub/switch/WAP.

As how to, see the directions at

https://www.dslreports.com/faq/12506

While those directions are not for your primary router, it will help you figure it out.

If you have any questions, please ask. But please keep in mind that I do not or ever had FIOS and do/did not ever have/had any FIOS router.

I am having the EXACT same issue as here. I can't find any answer anywhere.

I've contacted tech support and they essentially said they can only issue another router. This means nothing as the original issue will still be there.

I need a competent technician to look at the logs, use logic, and figure out why this is happening. There is a solution, but a new router is not it.

I also just had this happen.  My whole family started flipping out and my wife said the same thing happened yesterday and today.

I went through the system log and found 3 instances of "Reboot by Power Cycle/Software Fault induced".

Has anybody got anywhere on this one?

From another thread I learned there is a new HW revision available:  1104.  I'm already on my second G3100, HW revision 1103 for a totally different problem.

If this keeps happening I may call Verizon tomorrow and insist on a new router.

I have a similar problem with the router: the router randomly resets itself to the factory values.

I've been dealing with this problem for over a month and these are the steps I've done.

1. Reset the router

2. Change IP address

3. Reset all equipment

4. Replace computer with a brand new one

5. Change modem and router

5. Change provider (switched from Spectrum to Verizon)

6. Repeat steps  1-4

Somewhere along these steps the router's log showed warnings of DNS rebinding attacks. After changing the equipment no more warnings, but the router keeps resetting itself and logs look similar to the ones posted here.

I suppose there is a bug that triggers the problem. I have updated antivirus, VPN and whatever internet security is available, but I still suspect a bug (can smartphone connected to the network trigger this???).  Too bad I'm not a network specialist, googled "heartbleed", talked to quazillion IT specialists, no one could help, really being frustrated by now.

If anyone solves the mystery please post here.

I had the same issue that started this week - my G3100 router kept rebooting on its own several times a day. I was simultaneously having issues with one of my Nest cameras too as it kept loosing the WiFi extender connection. I believe I have found the problem as I unplugged my router extender and am back to just my main router. Since doing this 24 hours ago I have experienced zero reboots. Hope this helps!

You might be experiencing a looping LAN connection. Check all of your network nodes to make sure no device is linked twice. E3200 should only be connected with either coax or ethernet, never both of them.
