G3100 and MAC Authentication

Was pleasantly surprised that MAC  Authentication is allowed on the new UI for the G3100, but it doesn't appear to work. Was anyone successful at denying a MAC and that device not being able to connect? I am trying to balance the number of devices between access points, but is impossible without being able to change SSIDs for the extenders or being able to use MAC filter.

MAC Address filtering isn't the way you'll want to go through balancing devices between access points. The best way to do this is to decrease the transmit power of the access points so they create less overlap, and so they cover only the areas they are intended to be covering.

Nods head in agreement.

To OP

Trying to filter by MAC address is a futile effort. The network doesn't really need help balancing devices. If all the SSID's are the same, they usually will roam and connect to the AP with the best signal. If you have so many devices that you think it's an issue, then add another AP. The most effective method is to move as many devices as possible to 5ghz.
