Gateway Ping Increases

So I am an avid online gamer and as such I notice many issues that pop up with my internet because even small problems become glaring when you're trying to stream that much data.  I purchased a Quantum Gateway a few weeks ago because I was having an issue with my internet upload speeds (download - 50mbps, uploads - 0.02 and sometimes less, to the point of timing out the test).  This eventually turned in to an outage affecting 27 other people in my area which they finally (after about 4 months of reporting the problem) fixed.  I still have the gateway, which **was** great... that is until now.  So for the last week and a half I have been noticing and experiencing random increased ping response times.  Every 10 second intervals my ping response to my router would go from 1ms to 1600ms.

For example:

>ping 192.168.1.1 -t

Pinging 192.168.1.1 with 32 bytes of data:

This 1600ms response time occurs exactly every 10 seconds from the router.  This occurs on both 2.4 and 5ghz bands.  This indicates to me an equipment issue and the gateway should be replaced but I figured I would drop a line on here to see if anyone else has had a similar issue and/or if anyone has fixed it.
