Thanks for the assumption, Justin. I've reset the router a few times. Each time, the default name and password worked a couple of times, then reverted to the situation I'm in now.

{please keep your posts courteous} it appears that Verizon has not done any end user experience testing for this small, but important, aspect of router management.

[ Oh, alright.]

Things wil be o.k. even without accessing my router.

I realize this is a relatively tiny thing, but typing Admin, admin, ADMIN or AdMiN plus the serial number does not log me in.

It appears that it's not something on my end, which leads me to believe it is on Verizon's side of the fence.

Thanks all!

The router is not on Verizon's side of the fence.  Of course it could be defective.

I would give in and reset the router.  Immediately change your router password (and ID if you like).  Log out of the router and login again to make sure the password works.  After making your other changes, it is possible to save your settings to a file on your PC.  Then you can restore them if you ever have a problem again.

But Verizon's name is on the router. I know it's made by another company, but still.

To get into the Router configuration page, you need to log on with 'admin' as the user name and the WEP key as the password.  This is the default signon for the page. This is assuming that you have not set up a user name or password before, which it sounds like you did not.

When you do get in to the config page, I suggest you change the name and password, which I made mine the same as my login to Verizon (so that I would remember it).

I know this is a little late, hope you found help.  I just thought I would post to maybe help others in the future with the same problem.

Maybe these two faq's will explain it more clearly.

To logon in to the router
•Open up your browser
•Enter 192.168.1.1 into the address bar.
•Press ENTER. The router's logon screen should appear

If you see a screen asking you to establish your initial user name and password, your router has been reset to factory defaults. You will need to enter a user name and password that you want to use to access the router's GUI in the future. When you've entered the user name and password you want to use, you should be taken to the router's main status page.

Otherwise, enter your user name and password. Unless you have explicitly changed the user name and/or password, the username should be ADMIN and the password should be the router's serial number located on the service tag. The serial number should be entered in upper case. Once you've entered the user name and password, you should be taken to the router's main status page.

*exception - The dual antenna'd Rev I router from Verizon (red band) has a 'password' listed on the service tag. it is case sensitive.

If you are still unable to logon in to the router, see the following FAQ:
»Verizon Online FiOS FAQ »I can't login to the VZ router

If you can't login to the router, it may be one of several things:

• When I try to login, multiple dots appear as I type.
This is a security feature and is normal.

•I used to login to the router with "password1" (or similar common password). Now that doesn't work.
In August 2010 Verizon changed the password of any customer routers that had one of several common passwords due to a published hack. The user name is admin and the password was changed to the serial number of the router*. The serial number is located on the service tag on your router under the bar code. Enter it in all caps as the password field is case sensitive.

• If you still can't login to the router, you will have to do a factory reset of the router.
The reset button is a recessed button on the rear panel of the router. Press it in for about 15 seconds (until all the lights on the router go out, then flash). After the router reboots, open a browser window to »192.168.1.1 You will be prompted to change the password on the initial screen. Any customization you have done to the router will be lost.

* - Per a post here, the password now appears on the service tag sticker and no longer is the serial number.

Also make sure java script is enabled in your browser - here is how to check in IE 9 http://browsers.about.com/od/internetexplorertutorials/ss/disable-javascript-ie9_6.htm Also if you have any stored passwords for the router's address make sure they are cleared.

So just ignore most of what is in this ancient thread that you piggybacked on to

and

reset the router to factory defaults

then login with the userid of admin (in any case or mixture of cases you like)

the password should be the serial number that is on the router - ignore the extra characters that are added when you type the password

now you are logged on change the password to what you want it to be.
