For some reason, I can no longer connect to the internet by connecting my PC to the router via patch cable. The wired connection gives me access to the router itself, but not the internet. However, connecting wirelessly gives me full functionality.
The only thing I did was turn the PC off when I went to bed and back on the next day.
Anybody else have that problem? I can live connected wirelessly, but I much prefer to have my primary PC hard wired to the router.
The router is software driven, and no doubt part of the software has gone off the deep end for reasons unknown.
My suggestion is you tunoff the router (pull the plug) for about a minute, plug it back in, reboot your PC, and odds are it will all work.
In fact I suggest that all DSL and FiOS routers be periodically re-booted (you can command them to reboot from the PC). If the lights haven't gone out in the last month or so, I try to do it about once a month.
This could be a physical issue or a software issue (most likely it is software). Every time one connects to the internet or installs a program, settings can get changed that you may not be aware of. And in the case of connecting to the internet, what happens today may be caused by something that got in your computer last week, or last month. Anyway, always check the physical connections, change ports on the router, try another 'known good' cable, for example.
Does the internet light turn green on your router ? If not, press the reset for 15 to 20 seconds (with your computer off) then turn the router back on and wait until the internight turns green before you turn on your computer. If the internet light never comes on, call tech support to report that to them and they will assist you from there.
If your internet light on the router is green:
If you changed any of the default settings for your internet connection, on the computer or on the router, change them back to the manufacturer's settings (default) and then try. If you get connected with default settings, then re-do whatever changes you previously made to then see if the issue comes up again.
If you have never changed the default settings on either the router or on the computer (for your networking), turn your computer off, then reset the router by depressing the reset on the back for atleast 15 to 20 seconds, then turn on your router and wait to turn on your computer until after the internet light on the router is green. Then turn on your computer.
NOW, if you are using Vista on your computer, note that you may actually have to turn off the wireless connection to be able to use the wired connection (making sure the wired connection is not disabled)

I totally agree with cjacobs001 on that, Great Information.. If none of that works definately give them [edited] a call and someone will work with you on that specific issue and do what they [edited] can to get that all resolved for you.
Um...it just kind of started working again for no reason in particular....
I'm not sure if I'm glad or irritated. I guess I needed to have the PC turned off for 10 hours instead of 5-10 minutes. That apparently made a difference....
