During the late afternoon hours, my ping for an online game that I play that is hosted on a server located in the same state as me (new jersey) jumps to 70-200ish. Normally my ping is 5. It has been happening for a few months now and it happens every day from 6 pm to 10 pm. It does not have to do with the server because nobody else on the server has a ping different from their normal. My friend who uses comcast does not have this problem (same game/server, lives in same town). I have nothing else running on my computer, my wireless is off, and nothing else is connected to my router besides my computer.
can somebody please help me because this is getting really frustrating. i have contacted verizon on the phone and they tell me that it is not their problem. also, i ran the in home agent but it did not help.
Also, the game is a browser based java game that i play on firefox. SOMETIMES, if I open the game on another browser (IE), I'll have normal ping. I will have 200 ping on firefox but 5 ping on IE (if i have 2 browsers opened) for 4 hours straight. this only happens SOMETIMES though.

How are you measuring your ping? Is that a number displayed by the game, or from the PING command in a CMD window?
PING from the command prompt does not use IE or FF. If you're referring to a "ping" displayed by the game, and it is normal in IE at the same time you're seeing 200ms "pings" in FF, it's not a FIOS problem.
You say it only happens sometimes? Do you mean that you're only seeing 5ms ping in IE sometimes and that it is also 200ms at others?
Please post a traceroute to the game server.
Open a CMD window, type TRACERT <ip-or-DNS-address-of-game-server>

Number that is being displayed by the game.
Between 6-10 PM: my ping on BOTH IE and FF is 200 (95% of time). My ping is 5 (normal) on IE and 200 on FF the other 5% of the time.
Any other time other than 6-10PM: Normal ping on both browsers.

As Anti-Phish said that may not be a FiOS problem at all. It could be the game's servers or the routing to them. They may be getting overloaded in the evening when everyone is at home playing.
When you're seeing the problem, do the tracert to the server as Anti-Phish suggested to see if you should be looking for help here or on the game's site.

I am not sure what the server's IP address is. The website is not hosted on the same server as the game itself.
Also, the server is not getting overloaded because I am the only one with high ping on the server. Everyone else has normal ping.

You're not going to get any good advice unless or until you post a traceroute to the server involved ... the Internet is a large complex network of computers and paths involving many different providers and interconnection points. The behavior you describe with differing experiences depending on the browser used is an indication of a local machine issue, not a network issue -- but only a traceroute will show this.
Right now you've told us "I need you to find a need in a haystack". Problem is, it's in a field full of haystacks and the field is somewhere on the planet, but no one knows where.

Can I just traceroute any website? Won't that show high ping as well if the problem lies in my computer, not with FIOS? I will see if I can find the ip address for the server.

Try pinging a few servers during prime time using a command prompt. dslreports.com, for example. That will be a starting place for troubleshooting.
It's sneaking up on 7 PM and dslreports.com pings at an average of 14 ms here on Long Island. What do you get?

OK, here is my traceroute to the game's server, my ping right now on the game is 75. I have friends who live in florida that have half my ping, but I live in the same city where the server is being hosted.
