High Ping

I have a question for anyone in the tampa florida area - I have done countless speed tests and when I initialize a test my ping is never anything less then 66 to < 50 miles from my home.  Is this what kind of latency FIOS offers its customers? I have called and spent hours online in livechat trying to get them to see if anything is wrong with my line.  I have watched numerous youtube videos of other verizon customers ping test and none of them are even over 16.  I do a lot of online gaming and the latency effects me every game i play. So is there anything that I can do?  I have the 75/35 package.

thanks in advance

I recently had posted something regarding high ping times. I cannot get a ping lower then 74 to tampa or any surrounding areas and I'm less then 50 miles from there. I cannot imagine that FIOS the leader would have that high of ping times. The reason I'm concerned about the ping times is with XBOX live it's not about speed but about the quality of the line -- meaning the jitter the latency etc.. I have a horrible time playing FPS games because of this problem. I was wondering if there was anyone out there that experiences the same thing or can help me with my problem. I was told by one of the FIOS employees on the board here that they would have a network team look into my issue and that was 2 weeks ago -- since then I cannot get a response from anyone. They took my original post down before when they started to work with me. I cannot understand why they would do that and then ignore me -- is that the kinda service you get around here as a customer?

Thanks

Just to let you know high ping rates are also occurring on the DSL side.  My line was fine for six months but just started this past month with high pings over 600.  So far have been unable to get level one tech support to understand the problem.  They keep looking at line speed not how clean the line is.  Have been unable to talk to a supervisor who understands this as well, their only comment so far is that verizon does not support the way I am using my DSL line which is the enhanched line 15mps.  Sales rep. told me it would support gaming, but now tech support says no.  The onlt thing they are willing to do is pass me to a premium tech suppot group that bills by the min.

Wish you good luck on your end, maybe id\f DSL customers and Fios customers form a union verizon will start to listen to us.

How do I run a traceroute?

  1. From your desktop, click the Start menu, and select Run.
  2. In the Run dialog box, type command and then click OK. This will open a DOS window.
  3. In the DOS window type:
    tracert URL > > c:\\username.txt
Replace URL with the full URL of the problem site, e.g. www.netscape.com. Replaceusername with your actual Verizon Online user name. This will run a traceroute to your problem site and save it to a file called username.txt.
  4. From your desktop, double-click the My Computer icon.
  5. Double-click the (C:) drive icon. You should see the username.txt file.
  6. Double-click this file to open it. You should see results similar to the sample output shown below:
