Higher bandwidth but worse latency

I recently "upgraded" my Internet service to higher bandwidth (35M/20M), without any change in wired/wireless router. What I noticed is a marked degradation on latency, i.e., the time websites now take to respond to any requests.

Has anyone else experienced a similar degradation? What is the solution? A new router? The one I have from Verizon is an MI424-WR Rev. E. Someone told me Optimum provides a newer, faster router (802.11n?).

Thanks!

This could be caused   by many things their are a  few things  that I would like for  you to please provided as  well as try  so that we  can get a  better understanding what's going on . First can you please     provided how you  are connected   example such as a    cat 5 cable from your modem to your router or   are you using a  wireless  connection also   what type of router are you using  is  it  atleast 300/ mbps? The next thing  i would also  say is  try to   clear your browser , cache, cookies and  temp files ect   http://www.wikihow.com/Clear-Your-Browser's-Cache to see if that helps as well  this  does make  a  difference some times as  well and lastly   please confirm the speed you are getting   from speedtest.net  and choose a local  area and  please  post your results  back . I hope to hear from you soon .

Try giving your ONT a reboot. Sometimes that's all they need after they are re-provisioned for another speed to run well. The ONT is that box Verizon installed somewhere around your home to convert the Fiber signal into something a bit more usable by common devices. I doubt the router is a problem. The Wireless on the Rev. E will bottleneck you to 20Mbps but a speed upgrade should not cause that to degrade at all unless you've got the radio maxed. On a Wired connection, you should not see a degration of speed or latency unless your line is being utilized, anyways.

I went to FIOS a few months ago.

I'm really happy with the speed....

and i realize that some sites may have speed issues...

However, from the start, I noticed the Latency problem on all sites.

Seems it might have something to do with Verizon not accessing a  fast DNS service ???

Suggestions.

Verizon's poor DNS servers....

Yepper.  I have seen that and I have seen user's on Comacst complain likewise.

I switched to using the following Public DNS Servers

8.8.8.8

8.8.4.4

4.2.2.1

4.2.2.3

I have that set statically on computers, various SOHO Routers and IP related appliances and NOT for just Verizon customers.
