How do you get a new Router from Verizon?

I have a FIOS connection for like 3 years now and it came with a wired router. Now I bought another computer and I need a wireless router fot the same. When I called these guys around two weeks back, the customer service guy told me that he will send out a modem and that I will receive it in a weeks time (of course after transferring me around to a zillion departments - mostly back and forth).

I have not recieved the router and I called them up again today. Again I was transferred between the billing and service, customer service, tech support and some other department. Everyone tole me that I am eligible to recieve a free router as it always came with FIOS service but none of them were able to place the order form me for some reason unknown to them. Finally someone told me that she could place the order for me if I paid some 100 odd $.

Have anyone experienced this sort of thing? {please keep your posts courteous}

The thing is that I am a customer for so many years and they refude to give me a wireless router - something that they give away with every new connection.

Have any of you guys faced this issue? Please help.

I am frustrated with the service and I think they are going to lose one loyal customer of many years.

You can always just buy a WAP (I have a Netgear WG602) and you'd be good to go.  The benefit of doing it this way is you can make a cat5 run from your router (usually in your basement) to a central location in your house. Then, hook up your WAP there so your wireless signal is better all over the house.

Good luck.

A second thought:  Will Verizon come and replace your older router if it stops working?  Hmmmm.....

you can always order fios TV. They would need to put in a new router to get the TV service running.
